    Root canal!

I had a tooth break on me and it couldn't really be filled. So they just did a root canal and then they're putting a Permanent crown on in a few weeks. That was about $450 w/ insurance, plus a few hundred for the root canal and other BS. I'm around $1000 for this tooth. but it will be 100% in a few weeks.
Sucks to have to spend so much for that one bad little tooth! but i'll have to get it done soon.

Well when you've pulled an "Allie" and ate on one side of your mouth for long enough. It's plenty worth it. I couldn't even have cold liquid on that tooth when it was bad.

I can't really feel anything anymore on that tooth, but it bothers me though that there's a freckin' hole there.

    Anyone had an abcess?
I had one over Chrismas last year. I had no money to see a dentist for two weeks at first either and at one point I was getting through 3 packs of pain killers a day.

    Woo hoo.
I have had a broken tooth for TWO years. It's attached to a bridge in the bottom of my mouth so in order for it to be fixed, I needed a new bridge, which I did not have the money for. Two years ago they said it would cost $4200.
I didn't have insurance at that time
and then when I did get insurance it only covered 50 percent! : eek:

I've been eating on the right side of my mouth since then! double

so my credit is atrocious but mom's is good and when I told her they had a payment plan, she graciously agreed to help b/c she couldn't stand hearing that I couldn't eat right.

So I had all the x-rays re-done last week and when I went back today and they drew up a treatment plan
the original price was $12,000 : eek:
which I laughed out loud. I said that is college tuition type of money.
And I showed her how 2 yrs ago, it only cost $4200, how could the price triple?

So the girl that works in the office spoke to the dentist and called me tonight they knocked the price down to $4400. So I have an appt, they have to extract the broken tooth b/c it is infected
    and then
I'm going to get to eat like a normal person!

Sorry to go on but I'm really super excited! Yay for me. And Yay for Mom (thanks Mom!)
 Those prices! Wow, it costs alot here too... it's actually cheaper for Irish people to book a 2 week holiday in Spain and get it done there :o and it would still come to about a third/quarter of the price :o Good luck though Allie :)

I know, it's crazy. Welcome to America with no universal health/dental care. Wait do you have universal care?
    Thanks Helen

and yes you can get head aches/migraines from teeth problems-it's all connected, if you grind your teeth or have a problem with your jaw (or even a tooth ache), it can affect your head and it even makes my eye twitch. It's crazy but it's true

I had one this year - just had it taken care of 2 weeks ago. I kept telling the dentist that my molar was bothering me...and he kept saying that he didn't see anything wrong with it on the x-rays. While I was on vacation this year the tooth became really sensitive to cold and was excruciatingly painful. I was going through painkillers like crazy. I saw a dentist in Australia, who also said she couldn't see anything wrong with the tooth and that it was probably that the nerves were exposed from gum erosion. She gave me some numbing liquid which helped and eventually the pain went away (I guess because the nerve was dying!!) A few weeks later my cheek was really sensitive when I touched it...turned out to be an abcess. I had a root canal done 2 weeks ago and I'll be going for the crown now. I really recommend seeing a specialist. I had a root canal done by my general dentist in the past, which got infected and was the worst pain ever! This one was done by an endodonist and was flawless. $220 with insurance...still waiting to see how much the crown will cost.
There's a light when my baby's in my arms :)

    you guys, I am perplexed.
Is anyone on here a dentist?

Ok my dentist wants to do this whole procedure I detailed on the 1st page. Before he said the tooth should be extracted (for which he makes more money),
he had said the previous week to go see an endodontist to see if the root canal should be re-done

well I have a 'root canal guy' who I saw today who've I've known for yrs and he said I should re-do the root canal and the tooth doesn't need to be pulled.
(Of course he makes money off the root canal)
    so basically,
I don't trust either one of them b/c I feel they are both out to make the most money
    What do you all think?

    Thanks!

Honestly I think it could go either way. I basically had the same problem as you had. They did the root canal and basically rebuilt my tooth so to say. After all the work they did, they probably should have just yanked the fucker out.
