I had an unassisted triple play during a play-off game when I was 17

It was 1-0 for our team in the bottom of the 6th inning (7 inning games), runner at 1st, runner at 2nd, 0 outs.

I was playing short-stop, my normal position, and a line drive was racing over my head to my left. I leaped, I like to think the best leap I have ever made (not one with much of a leap) and snagged the liner, my momentum was taking me to 2nd base so I touched the base and the runner who was on first was running to 2nd (must have been on a 3-2 count because both runners were on the move) and tagged him for the unassisted triple play.

I believe we won 1-0 and advanced to the semi-finals.

Was my best defensive play when I played competitve baseball in my teenage years.

I turned a triple play in legion ball once. not unassisted though. I played second. I caught a line drive, tagged out the runner who was on first (he was like a step away from me when I caught it) and quickly threw to the shortstop to get the guy sliding back into second.....though I personally think he was back in time and the ump just got off on calling three guys out in a row. either way I'll take it.

you say that for your play it must have been a 3-2 count and the runners were on the move. that's impossible (or the other team was retarded) because the runners should only be going on a full count when there are two outs.

it appears that there was a double steal on....both runners got caught off base....and WAY off too. You can clearly see that in the video...just a very odd circumstance. It wasnt just the guy on Second....hell by the time the 2nd baseman got up...the dude on first was already turning off second.

    lucky play

You definitely need at least a little luck to turn an unassisted triple play.

well, back then, you ran alot, stolen bases were a big part of the game, because pitchers weren't that great at holding runners on, and catchers weren't all that accurate. I am pretty sure it was 3-2 count cause the runner was practically at 2nd when I tagged him.

What, you haven't seen MLB teams run people on base on a 3-2 count with less than 2 outs. Happens all the time.

I'm sorry but I'm skeptical of your unassisted triple play. I think you may be a tall-tale teller. they're common to message boards. post here that you don't care what I think and/or that your really turned the play......but then PM me and admit that you're just telling stories.

After the play he flipped the ball into the stands. As he flipped it he realized his mistake and said...."oh noooo"! :)

okay, well, I don't care that you are skepitcal, and I am not some tall-tale teller. I don't bs about my baseball career in my younger years as well, as they are filled with many dominating moments. I was almost always the best player on the team, defensively (mostly played SS in the field), pitching (was always the best) and hitting. Unfortunatly or fortunatly, I was drawn more to the pot-heads then the jocks and lost interest around 17, my last year. I played hardball again at 20, but my arm wasn't the same after 3 years of not pitching.

The unnassisted triple play took place, like I described.
