What's the deal with hands?

You read some 19th Century writer and they can spend a whole page describing someone's hands.

Women spend shit loads of money on getting their hands moisturized and the nails manicured, and got knows what else.

I don't get it. I've never paid any attention to anyone's hands before at any time in my life.

Am I missing something here?

sounds to me you're missing some brilliant pairs of hands! ;)

I don't know. I don't spend tons of time on my pair.. but then again, I'm kinda lucky cause I have naturally quite soft hands.

I don't pay huge attention to other people's hands but one thing I can't stand is long fingernails on guys (especially if there's something under them!).

When I was a kid I was always fascinated by my grandparents' hands. My grandfather had huge hands, he worked with them his entire life and every day he told me to use my two hands, that they were the most precious gift god had given me.

:) I love that thought. and it's so true.

hands that have "seen" life, that have worked, are a wonderful thing.

My grandfather has almost no feeling left in his hands and can barely move his fingers, but he can still crush my hand when he holds it - they're that strong.

I don't understand why people spend so much time decorating their hands, especially when regular use only results in high maintenance. That said, if I could make a living as a hand model, I'd probably go for it. ;)

I was fascinated in my Granddads medicine cabinet. It got me in trouble once as my parents had to rush me to the hospital after I swallowed a load of his pills, and had to get my stomach pumped. I don't remember anything about his hands though.

when i was a child i'd sit on my grandmother's (dad's mom) lap and look at her hands. they were bruised up and stuff. i think maybe from the IV needle injection sites. i wanted to put band-aids on her (hands) ouchies.

my Dad had great-big blue hands. ;) seriously, he was a printer so his hands were always stained blue.

when i was a lil kidlet i used to wonder why my hands weren't blue too? or why mine wouldn't turn blue when he held my hand? especially since people always used to say to me "you are such a Daddy's girl. you are just like him" and i remember saying "no, I'm not. i don't have big blue hands" :D:)

It's funny that you posted this. I had my nails done 'cos I was going away for the weekend. I was on the bus back home today and a guy sitting next to me said 'you have very beautiful hands':D
I thought he was trying to hit on me, but couldn't find anything better to compliment me on :p

Back in May I shook a very attractive VP candidate's hand and thought, "Oh, my. What big hands he has." :o:p

I've always noticed peoples hands and feet. Don't know why, but I do. :)

    Same here and teeth.

They say that no matter how well you can disguise your age and wrinkles in your face you can't disguise it as well with your hands. The hands always seems to give it away, if someone asks me to guess a person's age I just take a good look at their hands.

Hands down that's the key for me to tell the age in a person.

    you most definitely are.
i LOVE hands, and to me they tell a lot about a person. are they well groomed and clean? are they at all callused/rough from labor? size of hands, shape of fingers.....can tell a lot about a man and i will leave it at that. ;) i love, love, love a man with strong hands.....well-formed hand/fingers. my husband is a bass player and i LOVE to watch him play.

as to women, i do not like too overly manicured looks....the too long nails, the fake nails, etc. but i like a nice, short and neat manicure...nail polish or not.....and you bet i take care of my hands. moisturizing your body is important, period, but especially things like your hands. beautiful and soft hands are a plus. :)

    this is VERY true!
you can see the most 'well-preserved' woman....great shape, body in perfect form, face looks smooth, hair is grey-free....but the hands ALWAYS tell the *truth.*
