yeah ... it's impossible to always be on guard ... i got my camera stolen (also in africa) but like after 3 plus months of not doing this and doing that ... at some point you have to just take your chances .. .

sorry about your stuff- it sucks when that shit happens.

my stuff was stolen once and i felt terrible for a little while. eventually you get over it and realize things could be a lot worse. that was my experience anyway.

A buddy of mine came out of his apartment a couple months ago to find someone routing around the inside of his truck. He was leaning over the driver's side (still standing, just leaning in) grabbing at something...
He didn't hear my friend come up. My buddy is like "Hey man, what's going on?" Scares the shit out of the guy. He turns to run, hits the door, falls to the ground and then proceeded to get his ass beat to a bloody pulp.
Cops and the ambulance come. They find out this guy had broken into a few other cars in the area the night before...as he still had all of the stolen stuff in his car.
People got their stuff back (minus a broken window here and there), the guy got his face pounded in, and he went to jail. Karma is a bitch! :D

Oh that's not cool Byrnzie, I'm sorry
I was mugged in broad daylight going into a subway station in the Village in Manhattan.
I had just bought a cd and they got that and about $20, but also my house keys and id were in there. I didn't even have a dollar to get home :(

    It is the worst feeling!

I had 2 bikes stolen from my old apartment complex. each were double locked.

I've heard that guam is called "the island of thieves." apparently, thievery is like ingrained in the culture.

My parents have a well-secured shed at the bottom of their garden where my dad keeps two very unnecessary, yet very nice go-karts. A couple of months ago, two travellers (there were some in our area at the time) managed to get through the padlock in the middle of the night and drive our go karts away from our house without anyone waking up and catching them.

It's pretty bad but I can't help laughing at the image of gypsies riding go karts out of our garden at night. :o
Ah, speaking of gypsies again....I shall preserve a stony and acid silence!

Saw a pissed-up city boy asleep on a nearly-full tube train not all that long ago, some scrotey, cretinous looking fella appeared before him and began fingered at his pockets casually before departing at his stop. He didn't look as if he could punch his way out of a paper bag, nonethrless not a soul(including myself) sought to apprehend him.

    Nope.

Edit: I can only console myself with the knowledge that I now have an excuse to go and buy a better camera. I'm thinking of a cannon rebel or something. I had a fuji finepix s600 before. Can anyone recommend a good one?

It was really my own fault. I decided to get a few hours sleep in a park to save some money on hotels. I found a place that seemed to be pretty safe. I didn't think anyone would pass through at 3 in the morning. Then I woke up at about 7am to discover my bag gone.

I really wish I'd woken up when the cunt was taking it. I'd have fucked him up.
:o Please don't be sleeping in parks Byrnzie! It's shit that this happened but just promise you'll take better care of yourself! Everything going ok? :o

What did I do? Well, I woke up to discover I still had some money in my pocket so I walked around for a few hours and then went back to the bar and carried on drinking.
Anyway, I discovered today that cameras over here are dirt cheap. I found a canon 450D for the equivalent of about £300 and a 160gb i-pod for the equivalent of about £150, so I'm gonna get both later this week. Both things are an improvement on what was stolen. The only thing I can't replace is the 'Into the wild' t-shirt. Fucking nice shirt that too. Oh well!
