    They aren't far behind, trust me. Every team has meathead fans. The ratio of Boston fans to meatheads increases 25 fold compared to other teams. It is without question that Boston fans take the Douchebag cake.

    Another reason. The use of "we" when reffering to a sports team one roots for. You do not play for said team, and this is not your alma matre, so you cannot use "we." This season, the Carmines are the team to beat, hurrah. Other seasons, you're just regular ol' douchebags.

    I don't give any credibility to the whole 'Red Sox Nation' because it has basically just been a giant bandwagon. I don't mean that everyone is a bandwagon fan, but you have to admit there are a ton of people that didn't give 2 shits about the Red Sox until circa 2003 when they faced off against the Yanks and FOX made such a big deal about the rivalry. Following the Red Sox has basically just become a way to say that you don't like the Yankees (which was the case back in 2003/2004 when you had to choose a side it seemed). But if you have to choose like that, all it proves is that the Yankees are the most popular team because you are consciously rooting for a team just because you hate seeing them win.

    Now before I get a bunch of Boston fans yelling at me let me explain. I live in Ohio, and I was one of those people. I own a Red Sox hat a purchased in 2003 just because a) I hated what the Yanks stood for and how they ruined baseball for smaller markets and b) I think the hat is classic and cool. I'm a lifelong Indians fan, and during the span from 2002-2004 we basically sucked, so rooting for the Red Sox was no big deal because we were out of it by May. But my problem is that most people who joined 'The Nation' jumped ship on their own team and never looked back. I'm an Indians fan, I will always be an Indians fan no matter if they are good or if they suck. I went to tons of games in the 80s and 90s in Cleveland vs Boston and there was no Nation. I went to the 1995 playoff series and hardly saw any Red Sox fans.......but now in 2007 during the ALCS there are a bunch of Red Sox fans. Explain that to me... How in 12 years has there been a major influx of Red Sox fans in the Cleveland area? It's because the Nation is about 65% bandwagon fans. These people are the lowest of the low when it comes to sports fans. You all know them, they are the people that are a giant Red Sox/Lakers/Duke Basketball/Cowboys/USC Football fan (they even root for the English soccer team to beat the U.S. in the World Cup). That is the Nation.

    white sox fans are a bitter lot. you would think it would be the other way around in chicago. cubs fans are typically the nicest people and the black sox fans are angry mo fos.

    is there a grass drought in chicago? someone needs to melow the hell out. do you punch your keyboard and spit at your monitor when you talk baseball?

    and, you cannot have it both ways. you cannot say "Red Sox Nation" is overrated and then in the same breath say their bandwagon is insanely huge. pick one or the other.

    Personally, I think the whole Red Sox Nation card was a good idea that got out of hand. When it started, there were no different tiers of membership and it was $10 a year to be a member. And members got a chance to buy tickets to a game before the general public and you got an id number and seniority. That idea sound familiar to anyone? I think Theo personally borrowed some of the ideas from the Ten Club in making the Red Sox Nation fan club. Unfortunately, after that initial season when management realized how much money they could make, the simple id card changed into varying levels of membership and costing a lot more money and the Sox started playing up the Red Sox Nation concept.

    I think if it was still in practice the way it, $10 bucks a year to get a good pair of seats to one game would be totally worth it.

    Red Sox Nation was an idea born opf the fans. That they had fans everywhere, like Philly for instance. It was picked up upon by the owners and turned into a disgusting marketing technique. Theo has nothing to do with that side of things, and I am sure is not happy about the way the sox end up lookin g by these deals.

    Anyways, no matter how many bandwagon fans we add, you'll never see a better set of fans than at fenway. (The SoSH win it for thread is amazing)

    True, growing up there were way more Red Sox fans in South Philly than Yankee/Mets fans. Probably because Philly shares with Boston a universal hatred of New York Sports teams.

    At the Sox Phillies games this year in Philly, there will be a ton of Sox fans there, but a lot of them will be Philadelphians who have been Sox fans for at least a couple of decades. The Red Sox were the American League team many Philadelphians adopted because of the ineptitude of the Phillies. 1 title since 1890.

    I noticed a few when I was there in May last year for a Cubs Phils game. (Nice ballpark) I never realized we (yes, I said we) had a presence down there. I thought it was some bandwagon people.
