My friends and I will be driving from LA to Mansfield this summer. I know that many of you have traveled to see PJ. Can u guys give us some survival tips, advice, recommendations for places to stop at, knowledge of changing laws by state, etc. I have a little anxiety about traveling in car so far way so maybe some of your responses will make me feel a better. Thanks guys.

Flying is no fun. Go out and see the country!! Road trips are the best. Granted the drive back will be a bastard, I guarantee.
gets to me every time
thats awesome I drove from Albany to Lolla last year (like 12 hours), but your drive will be much long and more rewarding. You should plan it so you can make some sweet stops along the way. Have fun road trips rule!!!
where/when to stop depends on your time, interests and money ... i would myself plan a camping trip through some of the nat'l parks ... cheap and they're awesome ... park pass gets your whole car in free - just have to pay for camp fees ...
in any case - try not to sweat the small stuff ... be flexible - those are my trips for a long road trip!
I would get satellite radio. I would also try to stop at some of the major cities if you have time...you never know if you will be able to make it back to some of them.
Have fun
New York, Memphis, New Orleans, Houston, Dallas, Amarillo, Santa Fe, Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, San Diego, LA (Malibu and Huntington Beach really), Big Sur, Pebble Beach, San Fran, Sacramento, Reno, Yellowstone and the Tetons, Devils Tower, Badlands, Chcago and then all the way back...
8800 miles in 28 days...
Buy a CB as noted above, purely for the entertainment value, and it could help if something goes wrong... We, in 84, didn't have cell phones...
Camped the whole way...
