good column on it from the philly papers that talks about his big fight with paul o'neill in 1996 in a mariners-yankees game at the kingdome.

Yeah, he was a great guy. Met him when I was a kid in South Philly. It was really cool meeting him because at the time he was still on the Red Sox and as a lot of people know I grew up a Red Sox fan. The coolest thing I always thought about him is that no matter where he played or what he did he was all about Philly.

R.I.P. Johnny Marz. You'll be missed.

  • The Mariners had a nice tribute to him after the game last night. Mclaren, the manager, couldn't even talk about it, he was so broken up. Very sad. Left behind a couple of kids, and even 2 grandkids

Johnny Marz will be sadly missed. I'm old enough to remember seeing him play for Temple , and the legendary Skip Wilson, vs. St. Joes. Don't remember if he played against Jamie Moyer at St. Joe's or not. Met him once; last year at a Flyers game. Even though the Flyers were crap and neither of us could've been thrilled at the horror we were witnessing, he was the epitome of class. A great baseball analyst. A much greater person.

    R.I.P.

Heartfelt Condolences to his family and friends.

RIP Johnny Marz - loved him for honestly in his analysis. Never sugar coated it for the players. When they sucked he pointed out that they sucked. True Philly guy will be missed.
  • Just heard the news today. My friend worked with him at mlb. He said he was one of the nicest and greatest people he ever knew. "It is nice to be important but it is more important to be nice" - John Marzano Sr. Used to say that all of the time.
