I don't think anyone here has ever worked at Walmart. I have. It's not that bad of a gig when I was in Highschool or College. It was pretty high paying at the time and the people working there were friendly. I had fun.

As to it being a burden to small towns? Whatever, there was a fight in my old small town about Walmart moving in. People were saying it would ruin the town and blah blah blah. All of it was BS. EVERYONE in town shopped at Walmart. People who were "out of business" had to either adapt or lower their already high prices. It made the town better because we actually got newer shops selling other goods. Plus we got cheaper goods as well at the Walmart.

I miss Wal-Mart! I used to shop there all the time! A dozen eggs for $.83 and a pound of butter for $1.73. I can't find that anywhere in my town. Wal-Mart is 45 min. away and I just can't justify the trip anymore as far as time and gas is concerned. Plus, ever since I started working at the hoity-toity organic restaurant, I've had to keep Wal-Mart private. They would probably fire me if they knew I shopped there. It's bad enough they took my artificial sweeteners and microwave away from me, I can't let them know about Wal-Mart!
I really screwed that up. I really Schruted it.

True..yet I still shop there for discounts and bargains :o

Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts are also taking over the local coffee shops too.
We got three Starbucks(one alone, one in the mall, one in Barnes & Noble) and about 5 Dunkin Donuts...Seriously, do we need that much?

I like Walmart for the generic version of the swiffer cloths (for sweeping). They are much cheaper. They fit the swiffer device and I use them in my kitchen. In other rooms, I use them without the broom part for dusting.

I'm happy to pay a bit more (i.e. Target) to avoid Wal-Mart. What a clusterf**k that place is!

I'm not a big fan of shopping there - but that's more due to how crowded it is and the other customers rather than the store itself.

Outside of that, I think it's a great company that does a lot to employ people and lower costs. Their prescription plan is very good and they just expanded the $4 program today.

They've been opening these Wal-Mart neighborhood markets that are just groceries and I really like the one near work. Less crowded, nice new store, etc.

don't know anything about the products or values really, but I just hate big box stores. If I absolutely *have* to go to one I'll go to target.
