Anyone else racked with guilt on a sick day?

It seems I'm racked with guilt in many parts of life, even though it's totally unnecessary. I'm sitting here with a stomach bug, nasty stuff, and yet I still feel guilty for being off work. Basically, I feel like a catholic. Guilty all the time. Anyone else? I don't know how to beat it.

Christ man, just enjoy the time off and try to feel better :) you don't owe the world your work.

  • You're all totally right, obviously. But I'm trying to change the habit of a lifetime here. I was even scared to ring the boss to get the day off cus I was scared she'd think I was making an excuse or bullshitting.

you seem ok? i mean you are sitting at your computer typing on here.. you cant be that ill if you can come on here and stuff.

you should feel guilty... my fucking taxes are paying for your slovenliness... now if you'll excuse me i have an afternoon of online table tennis to partake in... god bless working for the government ;)
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

What is this "sick day" you speak of?

Not sure I remember the last time I took off sick. It has to be a couple of years.

It's no wonder the fucking council tax is through the roof. You buggers should feel guilty when you turn up and get paid.

im blessed in that i have never felt guilty about not working. like right now, im pondering blowing off class this afternoon becos my throat is sore.
  • Never feel bad when the company issues you sick time and you use it. That's what it's there for.

At least they don't call you at home when you're sick. I'm the IT guy for my families business and I could be lying on the bathroom floor in a pool of my own vomit and if something breaks my phone will be ringing.

Amen. My sick leave is just another vacation account as far as I'm concerned. I take sick days all the time and I'm never sick. Tax dollars hard at work! Oh, and I only ever post in this pit when I am being paid to do so (at work), never on my time.

I'm catholic... and I don't understand this word 'guilt'

Obviously I can't tell you to 'enjoy' your sick day cos you're actually sick... but maybe you should try sleeping it off? I haven't taken a sick day in well over a year  but mainly cos I don't need to... if I want/need a day off, my company are quite fair so it's never got to the point where I've felt I need to screw them :D

Unlike the company I work for then, who are very mean and unfair, thus I have on occassion NEEDED to screw them, just so as I could sleep at night. Also is a diff' thing with pyhsical work, if you're ill, you just can't do it. Where as sitting in front of a computer posting random messages here is considered convalecing to some, to others it's part of a days work, no wonder some of you never miss work...you guys kill me, you got it made, well done to you :D

i never had any problems blowing off work either. i used to call on sunday nights claiming i was sick so that i could stay an extra day with my girlfriend. that was just an example.

i feel guilty mostly because I work in an extremely small office--2-1/2 people.

Actually, our receptionist is out sick with that nasty cold right now so I am here alone. Geez, I barely have time to Post here!~ it sucks!!!! :)
So I'll just lie down and wait for the dream

I don't feel guilty but they always try to guilt me in to coming to work. It doesn't work. Sick days are part of your pay. Do you ever feel guilty when you get your check???

Think of it this way... if you were feeling all happy and healthy and plugging away at work... the the guy in the next cubicle was sick and coughing up the new strain of the black plague into the air you are breathing... would you want his ass there... at work?
NO. If you are sick... do the rest of the world a favor and stay at home... take your medicine... relax and rest until you are well. Nothing wrong with that... right?
    ...
Now me... if I wake up and the thought of going to work makes me sick... I call in sick. Nothing wrong with that, right?

No guilt here. When I get a sore throat, I get happy thinking that I will get paid to stay in bed.

I've had to take a few days off this week, and I think I've apologized about 50 times for it.

mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.

:D me too... I've taken very few sick days over my life where I've actually been sick... I prefer to drag myself in those days so they think I'm really really dedicated. Cos then when I DO take a sick day they'll think it must be bad... and I get to really enjoy it rather than stay in bed feeling sorry for myself :)
