My organisational skills leave an awful lot to be desired, and it's affecting my job. Record-keeping, admin, memory and time-keeping, all totally shitty. Any tips I can get from any organised people on here? Either that, or some empathy... both are welcome.

I am a chartered accountant, yet all I do is put everything in piles, as opposed to filing them.

As far as time keeping goes, I scramble once a month to put together a daily summary of the clients on whom I worked!

So, I am of no help!

Au contraire, at least I know someone faces the same stuff I do. :D I'll file this one under 'empathy'. ;)

    Record-keeping, admin, memory and time-keeping,

    1. record keeping.. write stuff down in a wee book.

    2. admin.. hire a wee cute lassie to do it

    3. memory... thats my downfall as well.. so cant help

    4. time-keeping... i get annoyed by people who cant keep time.. meeting at 2pm and they leave the house at 5 past and text you to say "running late".. my best friend is like that... its fucking ignorant and if i meet someone and they are 15 minutes late i'll just walk off
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

The best way to start your organization regime is by starting with a Stongbow ......how can you be organized if you are not properly hydrated first! :)

I'm an Essential skills worker for a homeless charity. I love my job and I really want to be great at it but I can't see a way out of my organisational problems. But alas, I have to find one or I'm shot... I've no(t enough) money to hire any kind of assistant, unless she's female and doesn't charge and is only available for down time...

  • does your email system have a calendar feature? email reminders, and a desk top filing system with easily identified tabbed file folders (colored if you can get them) will help you with recurring job tasks.

Do you work with a PC ?

Make files, spreadhseets, use your calendar in Outlook

Excel is great for sorting things and organizing

Get hanging folders if you have a desk, use those big desk top calendars as well for things on when stuff is do or appointments

Tbh I didn't say it but I'm glad you're in here. My hydrocephalus doesn't help one single bit and I know you understand that.. someone up there has ADD so I can empathise with that person too. I've also met someone with dyspraxia recently and it seems we all share difficulties. I can beat mine, I know I can, but I'm fucked if I know how..

Write lists.... stick em everywhere you can see em...
I am so unorganised it's painful... write everything down, but don't put it away... leave it where you can see it.
I stick notices to the fridge, the cupboard... put reminders into my mobile phone... every thing helps :)

Sorry, I have fuck all essential skills ;) but I work to support the literacy and numeracy of homeless people in my organisation's hostels. Literacy/numeracy = essential or basic skills.

I don't understand your English :D You mean like reading and arithmetic?

Well I write to do lists for everything I have to do, and I have to submit treatment plans and plan reviews by certain dates, so I made a list of the due dates. You could try getting a big calendar and marking when things are due, if you have that

if you have to keep records of each client, you can get a file cabinet with a hanging folder for each client?

Do you have a computer at work? They have computer programs that can help with that, maybe you can ask someone from the IT dept to help you

and I am all about Stickies-everything I have to do I put on some kind of stickie, and I make to do lists of the things I have to do, the clients I have to call
    and everything of that nature

    I hope that helps? :)

Thankyou, all good ideas. :) I really think the stickies thing is gonna be the way to go. I can imagine having stickies all over my desk might suit me; then I'd be looking at my tasks in front of me all day. That's what I need.

    And yes, literacy/numeracy = reading/writing and math(s)
