Why is my ipod not charging?

I left it all night but it didn't charge very well.

I know that it's supposed to show a black screen with a green battery when it's charging but I can't get it to do so. ????

    I don't need, unfortunatley. Mine only charges at BF's and doesn't work so hot at home or at work. My screen says something about not being a high-speed port? Whateva!
