I think I've got viruses and shit on my computer and I need to clear out the system. Any good FREE! softwares out there to blitz any 'compromising material'? Thanks.

Ask on Technical Stuff and BBS help? You might get a response from Ahnimus, then. :)
  • "spybot" and "ad aware" should get the bulk of it. search, download and install them both at download.com. Clean everything they find.

If you can run hijack this http://www.download.com/HijackThis/3000-8022_4-10379544.html and show me the output file, I can tell you exactly what's ailing you.

Go with Juliens advice. Re-format the hard-drive. I have a friend who does that kind of stuff luckily. If you have technical friends ask them to help you out.

I used avira and the already mentioned ccleaner. I don't use adaware anymore though since it once tried to delete the software to my internet connection.

  • I had a nasty virus/spyware/trojan that I just couldn't get rid of. After doing a bunch of research with the same issues and hijackthis logs, I downloaded Super Anti-Spyware free edition (http://www.superantispyware.com) and it took care of everything.

The website gave me pause because it looks like it could be one of those fake programs that cause more problems than it helps, but it really did work.

years...and years. I built my first computer in 1989. I've pretty much seen the whole thing come to be.
