I've downloaded Spyware Doctor. Have I done something stupid or is it a decent program?? :D

Is that the one where you get the adware that pops up ads for the anti-adware program?

I've never used it so I don't know what it's like. but I do know there are plenty of malicious programs out there that masquerade as Spyware Doctor. Just be sure it's the real deal.

Nope, I ignored all the popups. This one I got from a legitimate looking Windows download site. I had to pay for it so it better be the real fuckin deal!

I like Spy-Subtract for it's cool sounds and Spy-Bot for it's immunization and cheap price.

the thing is, there are plenty of legitimate looking sites out there. people put some real time and effort into it just to see that others are affected.

i looked up reviews on cnet and wasn't too impressed. but don't just go with cnets reviews, especially the editors. i also looked at other reviews and decided it wasn't for me.

Hmm.. I'll have to look at that. Cool sounds? You gotta have cool sounds, that's important in our day of widespread privacy invasion. ;)

don't worry...i've done it myself before...paid for a program when something better or equally good is out there.

example, i paid for Registry Mechanic when a month later i found out about Glary Utilities which is free and a whole lot better!

  • I use Ad Aware from lavasoft and Spybot. both are very good, free, and safe

How are you people getting spyware? Lay off the strange links! Use Mozilla.. If you have to use a spyware protection program, use top-rated Spy-sweeper. If its free, its most likely spyware in and of itself. Nothing good is going to be free.
  • spyware's everywhere. I get a ton of it from sportsline.

Don't click on advertisements.. If you watch yourself, you won't get it. Spyware doesn't just magically appear. I've had spyware once in my life because I clicked on an advertisement. I've never had it since.

Mine was most likely from a porn site. Anyway it's gone now, touch wood. (No pun intended.)

I use Adaware, and Spyware Blaster. Also Sygate firewall. They're all free and I never get any problems.
