Some General Ticketing Advice

I'm advising based on what has worked for me in the past; and I have only used the internet and the phone.

Internet:
First of all, Firefox has a tendency to work better for me than Internet Explorer, as I'm sure some have now discovered through the Ten Club presales. For me, personally, IE would not actually open the Goods section for MSG 2, whereas Firefox did, enabling me to get seats. There is also a plug-in available called ReloadEvery, which will allow you to simply (as the name suggests) reload the site every amount of time specified. I also recommend PowerMenu (http://www.abstractpath.com/powermenu/).. this will allow you to bring a window to the front, and you can simply place it on a half of the screen and do something else on the other half.. i use that mostly for my sanity as I'm clicking refresh rapidly :)
Which brings me to the next point: DO NOT refresh rapidly on Ticketmaster. At a certain point, which I have yet to figure out how many exactly per minute, they will ban your IP for about five minutes. In crunch time, that could mess you up. However, you CAN keep searching for tickets repeatedly (aka enter the security code and do a search for tickets, decline those tickets, try again), so if you don't have great seats, just keep trying.

Phone:
When a big show is coming up, for Ticketmaster Canada at least, maybe not in the States, often five or ten minutes prior to the on-sale, the phone line will be busy. I usually call fifteen minutes before (yes, it will drive you insane), and keep repeating the menu. If you select an event before it goes on-sale, it will hang up after finishing, so find out which number allows you to listen to the info again, and press it, until that changes and gives you the ability to purchase the tickets.

BOTH:
If you can't get great tickets, honestly, wait it out. There are so many opportunities, and I don't mean eBay. Craigslist is full of good people, and good people sometimes simply can't make the show and just want tickets to go to other good people.

Hope this helps someone!

Great tips as we are all friends here, but we are also the ones competing with each other for tix.. There are some tricks to the trade you should let people learn on there own imo.

Am I the only one who misread the title and thought this thread was about General Tso's Chicken?
'I want to hurry home to you
put on a slow, dumb show for you
    and crack you up
so you can put a blue ribbon on my brain
    god I'm very, very frightening
    and I'll overdo it'
  • I know we're all competing, but maybe a kind soul can answer this one...

Is it advantageous at all to go to a Ticketmaster outlet and buy from them right when the tickets go on sale?

I have good internet, but still know how it can be right when things get going.

Meanwhile, I live five minutes from a record store that has a Ticketmaster outlet and I'm only buying for the D.C. show, which is approximately 500 miles away from where I live. So, I doubt there'll be a long line to buy Pearl Jam tickets a week from tomorrow.

    Any advice?

I know you're all competing, but there's a much larger competition going on... people on the board, versus people not on the board. And I'd much rather try and help the people on the board than do nothing, personally.

i did that for a RHCP concert and I can't complain. got good seats. not floor or anything, but lower bowl. but i only did it because i wasn't gonna be at a computer at the time tickets went on sale.

thanks, did know about autoreload, but not PowerMenu, will check it out (though I managed 100% without it this time..btw, you think they've finally fixed the server? it was so smooth from Mansfield onwards :))

Edit: can't find PowerMenu... you sure it's called that?

100%. I'll put a link on my first post. It's software made independently, so no company involved... it's freeware with a requested, but not neccessary, donation.
