Why is my iPod distorting?

Argh, I tested to see whether it was the headphones... nope, nothing wrong with those - yet my pod is still distorting at pretty much any volume. Any ideas?
'We're learning songs for baby Jesus' birthday. His mum and dad were Merry and Joseph. He had a bed made of clay and the three kings bought him Gold, Frankenstein and Merv as presents.'

    I've had the same problem recently but it was the earphones...

    Is there an equalizer? Maybe that's doing it

    Try the EQ setting. Mess around with it and see what you can do.

    All I've been able to do is lower the maximum volume setting, but since I never changed that in the first place, all I've done is lower the volume.

    not sure if it's an ipod thing...but i had one that did the same thing.

    try reseting it or check for updates, good luck.
