Hey I'm gettng tested for diabities next wednesday because its hereditary and the doctor thought it would be a good idea for me to get tested. Anyway I can't eat anything after midnight next week on Wednesday. My question is, they're gonna draw blood from me, is this similar to donating blood like same type of needle process. Also I'm going to a health clinic in a poorer neighborhood that rumor has it a bunch of people with AIDS live. Is there anyway they could possibly give me a dirty needle?

I've donated blood tons of times I'm just wondering though.

idk for certain, but i would not think that you would have to give near as much blood as when you donate. the dirty needle thing..... just watch them.

if it were up to me, i would try to go somwhere else, but really, if you watch them , you should be fine.

good luck with all, hope you dont have diabetes, and really hope you dont get a dirty needle!!!

    good vibes!
    Peace, Love.

    Its diabetes.

Theres very little chance on them using a dirty needle to test for diabetes.

In fact, Id be suprised if they didnt do a finger stick firstly-

Or possibly a traditional Hemoglobin A1C test.

Either way very little chance on the dirtyt needle thing- regardless of the economics of the neighborhood you may have to visit.

By the way- I am an insulin-dependant diabetic for 37 years now.
I also work in a hospital- so i know about these sort of things.

I would also say that nothing in life is 100% guaranteed.

You really need to make sure that whatever they stick you with either to draw blood or to inject drugs, that they use a single use syringe only.

No, they haven't done anything yet.... but I've had my finger pricked when I donated blood.
  • Usually make you pee in a cup. The blood draw will be nothing like given blood. Small need, a couple bottles will get filled, done in less then a minute.

they'll only need to pierce your vasculature once-

they use a vacutaner type syringe and needle ( which as previously stated will be single use) ( and usually wrapped )
they slide a tube in and out and the vacutaner fills the vials/ testube .

i cant see them doing this without a fingerstick firstly to test the glucose levels, but be it as it may.

also - you should be fasting for this type of test- not sure if you/ or they mentioned that .

    youll be fine.

    best of luck

  • I just had blood drawn last week. it's not like giving blood, they just put a little needle in the underside of your elbow, pull out the blood. it literally takes like 5-10 seconds.

as for dirty needles, that's an extremely slim chance. but anytime I get stuck with anything, I just watch to make sure they are pulling out a new syringe out of a package.

I've had loads of blood tests recently, some for diabetes, some for thyroid...all the same test, just a small needle in the arm, 5-10 seconds tops and it's done. They've always used clean needles, can't see how, these days, they can use dirty needles...I would've thought they'd have to be really clean and careful.
