WHO'S NEXT FOR VH1 ROCK HONORS
VH1 is paying homage to The Who in the network's third annual “VH1 Rock Honors” celebration of artists who represent the pinnacle of rock music. On 12th July at the Pauley Pavilion, Los Angeles, major acts, whose identity is still a closely guarded secret by VH1, will play their favourite Who tracks. The show will culminate with a performance by The Who themselves.

Makes sense to me that Pearl Jam would be there. Anyone else agree?

I think Billboard confirmed this a week or two ago when they reported that PJ is working with Brenden O'Brien on the new record.

Sorry that I don't have the link handy, but I think your suspicions are correct.

How does one get tickets/into this show?
  • Hate to gripe and it's been said a million times before I'm sure, but it's not the Who without Keith and John. Honestly, at this point, I think just putting "Pete Townshend & Roger Daltry" onto the bill will bring just as big a draw as deceptively calling themselves the Who.

Of course it is not the original line up, but
I think Townshend, being one of the founding members of The Who,along with Entwistle, has a right to use the name.
    There is no deception here.

    It's Townshend and Daltrey, actually.

Actually, it was Roger, lead guitarist of The Detours in '62, who brought in John and then Pete . Roger was the beginning and definitely has the right to being labelled founder and carrying on The Who name . Pete wasn't far behind in 62.

Dont want to come across as a philistine but when you have the main songwriter and the lead singer you pretty much have the whole band.

Saw the Who at Hyde Park in 2006 and they were awesome. Not many bands that age can still pull it off but they did.

I got that email too and didn't read it because I was already aware of the VH1 honors thingy.

That would just be the most ultimate for me, to see my two favorite bands together, but I don't see my being able to swing a west coast trip in July.

The Who are by far the greatest live band EVER. Always been my favorite, always will be.

PJ is a close 2nd though.

the two together would just be the cat's meow :D

I'll have to try and win this on a radio contest or something.

Although I saw Keith Moon play and I saw the new guy play (Kenny something?) and there was no question that Moon brought a lot to the Who. More than could be replaced. The Ox definitely added much, much more. What convinced me as much as anything, however, was watching that cover of "A Quick One" on the PJ dvd. That was impressive (and definitely a gutsy move) but when you look at how hard that drummer had to work compared to the way Moon played (see either The Kids are Alright or Live on the Isle of Wight dvds). To me there is no question the Moon brought something to the drum kit that can never be matched or replaced.

I don't disagree with that at all, but I've seen the Who without both Keith and John on numerous occassions and it's still a kick ass show.

But then I'm biased, because Pete Townshend is my favorite man in the whole wide world (music wise) :D

Had to comment on the one above. As far as live bands go, I will agree except that you overlook that other live band that was always better live than their studio albums - Zep.

    Yes, Quite right.
Not to change the subject but, if an alien came down to earth and asked what is this rock'n'roll thing?; just let him view the Who's performance of "Quick One" from the Rolling Stones Rock'n'Roll Circus . . . if I had to choose one performance that epitomizes rock music (I know totally impossible) then its that 1968 performance . . . whoa!!!!

Yes ,this is true.Although Pete and John first played together in 1959
in a group called the Confederates.
But that's nitpicking now isn't it.

Bravo. we are in total alignment with that...

I agree because anyone that knows rock & roll knows that this is not the original band. The Who still have Pete and Roger and they perform the Who's songs with very talented musicians.I saw them here last year in S. Fl. with Pete's brother on bass and Zack Starr(Ringo's son and the highlite of the concert for me) on drums and in spite of Roger having throat problems it was a great show. When I was in high school I was and still am a big Allman Brothers Band fan.Their music I heard on the radio was with Berry Oakley and the great Duane Allman.By that time Duane and Berry had died and if the band would have hung it up many of us who saw them later would have been deprived of experiencing some of the best live shows of our lives!!Long live rock, be it dead or alive!!

If this is on July 12th, then it won't be Pearl Jam playing because Stone and Jeff will be playing at a Green River reunion at Sub Pop's 20th anniversary concert at Marymoor Park in Seattle http://www.subpop.com/channel/news/sub_pop_20th_anniversary_festival
