Well, My mom is totally old school and she believes in everything she sees in the news channels(who hardly ever reports on positive things), so her view on life in the U.S. is harsh and all good people are vulnerable of bad acts from bad people.
She's been a single mother since I was 8 years-old! You can see why.
She sounds like my mum...when I told her I was going to NYC she was all very "you could get shot or killed or god knows what"... I said "I live in Calgary, mum. That could happen to me on 7th Ave" ...
My mum has been a single mum always.
You could drive your motorcycle across Europe... start in France and go down to Portugal... that sounds lovely
That's what I dream of doing someday...riding a motorbike across a country somewhere...anywhere!
Count me in on that one! I have such a jones for a chopper. I used to ride when I lived in California. Someday, I am going to get one, and I am going to take Route 66 from Chicago to LA. That is a pilgrimage everyone should do!
To pie I will reply
But mr. justam

Get your license. As much as it bothers me considering that my work and studies are all dedicated to the environment, there are few things I find as relaxing and empowering as just getting in the car, putting on some good music, and just driving until I don't know where I am anymore

I've actually tried looking into getting a motorcycle license. In MA, you need to get a permit first that last for 6 months or something with daylight and dawn regulations.
Then a friend of mine who's a rider said to go to a bike riding course and take classes, you'll be on the road and save some $ on insurance too.
From what, a few of them tell me is that...it's the 4-wheel drivers that bikers are more concern with than the road itself.

Our mums should go do some cougar preying on the young guys
A European to South East Asia trip on a motorbike would be a dream come true!

That is quite true. Most drivers don't see motorcycles. That blind spot when you change lanes that cars often appear in is even worse for motorcycles. Motorcycles on the road by themselves would have very few accidents. Also, stop signs are another place cars cream motorcycles.

Yes although I think my mum's preying days are over... but mine aren't .... I hope that doesn't make me sound like a cougar
OMG that would be an amazing trip I still want to drive cross country... I am wishing I had driven here.
My mom's 48/49, i think her preying days are done as well...She's more concern that I'm NOT married yet. She wants to be a grandma or something.
When bloody dying people are screaming from underneath the car....stop.
Other than that...hehe....sure...you'll be just fine....
Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,
and reveling in it's loyalty. It's made by forming coalitions
over specific principles, goals, and policies.

How you get to Calgary, Canada?
My mum is sixty... she would be OVER the moon to be a grandmother. She doesn't get after me to get married but I know she wants to be a grandmother.
How do you get here? Or how did I get here? Or do you mean because Calgary isn't on the coast it isn't exactly a drive across country. Anyway we are north of Montana.
I found a little car I like. I wonder if I can get it. Road trip here I come

"OMG that would be an amazing trip I still want to drive cross country... I am wishing I had driven here." that's what you said earlier and I asked "How you get to Calgary, CA" ...Never mind, I was confuse!
I thought Calgary was a bit further, like north of Idaho or Washington..next to Vancouver.
I'd like to drive to Seattle...that would cross country!!!!

We are about a twelve hour drive from Vancouver, BC .... in the middle of nowhere I think we were both confused??
Yes a trip from MA to WA would be amazing !! Plus Seattle.. I can't wait to go there.
I understand this fear. I have no desire to drive, have never taken a lesson and if I ever do learn, it will be for practical reasons, not because I want to. As for as I'm concerned, if I can get by without driving then I will. Thing is, most of my friends drive and I am TERRIFIED that one of them will have an accident. Four people I knew were killed in car crashes in the last 2 years, two seperate crashes. I didn't know them all that well and wasn't close to them but some of my best friends knew them well and I am so worried that it'll hit closer to home next time. I really wish they wouldn't drive. I don't worry about my dad or brother driving because they know what they're doing but 19 year-olds and cars just don't mix.
But then, millions of people drive with no problems so don't let it put you off. I think being worried is better than driving recklessly with no concern.
"I remember one night at Muzdalifa with nothing but the sky overhead, I lay awake amid sleeping Muslim brothers and I learned that pilgrims from every land — every colour, and class, and rank; high officials and the beggar alike — all snored in the same language"
