where is the best place to go?

i have never done this before and am looking for advice.

do they all have minimum amounts to open an account?

which has the best rates for buying and selling?

any advice would be appreciated.

    Do you actively follow and understand the stock market? If the answer is no, I'd suggest learning more about it and doing some more research before blindly investing in something. Either that or actually go to a financial planner who can help you plan your investments. Then as you become more knowledgeable, you can slowly break away from the planner and go at it yourself.



    Otherwise, you'll just have to read the fine print from the different sites. Not sure if there are any balance minimums. I believe a fairly standard commission is $9.99 per trade from the reputable online trading sites. As for recommendations on which sites to use, do a consumer reports search on any site you might consider.
