I highly recommend people to d/l his podcast if comedy is your thing (or you're a bit wierd). The latter pretty much covers most people who will see this thread :D;)

i think he's salubrious in the comedy stakes... i've met him (see claim to fame thread)

    :D
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.
  • I wasn't sold on him until his latest TV show.. That had me in stitches constantly and turned my opinion around. He's intelligent, articulate and has the imagination of a genius.

Any thought on the whole Russel Brand/Jonathan Ross stuff that's been going down this week?!!

Incredible over-reaction if you ask me.

Sorry if people outside the UK have no idea what I'm on about, I was hoping someone else might fill everybody in on the happenings!!!

2 people complained at the time of the show... since then 31,000 very bored old people have complained.

now i'm not saying what he and Jono said was 'right'... it wasnt.... but it was hardly akin to being a Nazi sympathiser or something deplorable... he said he shagged Manuels grand-daughter... and he did... so it was true. its not like he made it up.

storm in a really tiny teacup.

BBC has lost one of its radio presenters and Ross will take a while to get back to his best after this, i personally fear for the other 'edgy' shows that are out there... like Mock the Week, HAve i Got News for you, etc, etc...

It's ridiculous that it has been such an important news story, see if you can see what is wrong with this picture for instance.

Having said that, take away their fame or the context or whether Brand slept with the woman or not, calling up any 78 year-old man to tell him you fucked his granddaughter isn't funny. I like Russell Brand, and Ross to a lesser extent but they should know better. It's the BBC's fault as much as theirs though. The suspension was ridiculous. You don't hire a man who got sacked once for turning up to work on TV on September 12, 2001 high on coke and heroin, dressed as Osama Bin Laden if you don't expect some trouble from him.

i agree. but i'd shake my head if i heard it on the radio... i certainly wouldnt complain 6 days afterwards having never actually heard the fucking thing!!

It's ridiculous. What they did was bang out of order and I feel for Sachs & his Grand daughter. But what happened since is crazy.

Two people complained after the show. Since then it's more than 20,000 !!
The complaint is that what they did was 'offensive'. Well only two people were caught off guard and offended by it on air.
Everybody else have gone out of their way to either watch it or listen to it on teh net or read about it! How have they been offended?! They knew what they were doing, they'd heard the story, so why complain about being offended?!!

They knew it was deemed to be 'offensive', listened to it then complained about it being offensive!!! DON'T listen to it then!!

Again, I'd like to point out that I'm not defending Brand & Ross, it just angers me when people moan about nothing.

I don't think they should have been sacked or suspended at all. It's true that that's not really funny but the radio show does have at least one editor who could have stopped it. It was pre-recorded and they could have taken preventative measures well in advance.1
  • I can't stand russell brand... don't think he's funny at all :o

I heard something about the Ross and Brand thing but not sure the full story though. I love Jonathan Ross :D

I think he's a pushy, preening, poncing, mincing, whining, in-with-Davina-stage-school-cliquey, luvvie, overblown, narcissistic, ratfaced, spunkhaired little twat. He's about as funny as asbestos, and even if I'm alligned with the Daily Mail readers for once in my life for this one, I have to agree that the airwaves are joyfully purged without his witless gurgling.

All of this is 100% correct but I still rather like him. It's all an act anyway.

I plan to live forever.so far so good !
  • I think he's hilarious. His stand-up comedy is a lot better than when he's just rambling on some tv show though.

Nah, there was structure, poise, and even restraint in my diatribe. ;)

Facial-features will go off on one and not have a clue what he's on about. He was attempting some pretence at a stream of consciousness once, being wildly allusive to the poem The Second Coming. The intention, it was clear, was to come across as some worldly genius, a clown with hidden depths and darkness. The problem was, he kept fucking up and attributing it to T.S. Eliot.

Anyway, why am I even writing about this wankdog? There's a fookin' election going on to decide the future of the planet ....

To be honest, attributing The Second Coming to Eliot rather than Yeats is forgiveable, in my opinion, when it's from the mouth of a man who is quite obviously not to be taken seriously in the slightest. At least he's making those references, however clumsily, rather than just telling female guests on his show that he wants to put his winky in their hole like Mr Ross does :p

He's an acquired taste, for sure, but Russell Brand is funny. He is. Honestly. I promise :)

not in my world there aint... i couldnt give a fuck who the rednecks vote for.. i just like a laugh... ergo Brand & comdy in general is more relevant to me than 2 well educated men from the US of A .

i agree... i personally couldnt care who he attributed or mistakenly attributes a poem to and/or how wrong he got it... thats hardly a reason to think someones not funny... it shows he might have a shit memory but it doesnt define a stand-up comedians entire act.

They hyped him up over here for a bit... but he didn't catch on. To be honest, I didn't even give him a chance.:o I watched him for about 2 minutes and then turned it off.
Whoa, chill bro... you know you can't raise your voice like that when the lion's here.

Exactly, and while he is able to sustain my laughter for an entire show based entirely on dispelling things written in the Sun about him, I'll tip my hat to his ability to make complete and utter shite funny, never mind poetry.

I mean seriously, anyone who doesn't laugh at that thing about supposedly being part of a womanising circuit with David Walliams and Beppe from Eastenders has just been stuck in 70s comedy mode for too long...

Not looking at anyone in particular ;)

Nah, it's not forgiveable. He was trying to seem sophisticated in his humour for five seconds, and made a shite of it. Comedians can be taken seriously for the content and integrity of their work, as well as being appreciated and laughed at/with. Brand has all the wit and perspicacity of a teen performance poetaster at an open mic who thinks that shouting and talking fast in a manic, rambling fashion while throwing in the odd deep reference in the midst of his scatalogical jizzery will make him the next Lenny Bruce. He's more like Barry Crier with ADD and on helium.

Comparing him to Jonathan Ross is easy. I won't even get started on that flangenozzle.

Talking of flangenozzles, I saw Jerry Gobshite Sadowitz on the Clerkenwell Road the other week, munching a sandwich and looking dejected in the same jeans he's been wearing since 1982.
