Because Ireland is already full of them. They need somewhere else.

I think something like one in ten people in Ireland are Polish... but it MUST be higher... there are polish shops and pubs all over the place, more polish signs than there are in irish  polish newspaper supplements, polish job advertisements  this one makes me PARTICULARLY mad and should not be allowed.

That's kind of like the US, except everything is in Spanish instead of Polish :)

but they've only been here about an hour! And already we have to start learning polish to fucking please them? Ya go into a shop and all the staff are standing around yapping in polish and looking ya up and down. And yet there are plenty of Irish people on the welfare. My sisters boyfriend is a very hardworking bricklayer and he can't get a job... and yet there are polish bricklayers (with no qualifications and no language) all over the place. it's gonna turn into a bad situation pretty fucking soon if the government don't regulate it.

I'd say that's a slippery slope. Are you saying only the Irish should live in Ireland? and Poles should only live in Poland?

absolutely not... but like you say it's a slippery slope... natives should have priority when it comes to work. If I go live in a different country, I'm a guest there. I don't go around immediately demanding that everything be translated for me and all that. If you behave like that, don't be surprised if people don't warm to you immediately. Employers are advertising for polish workers, cos they'll work for much less than we will... but it took a long time to get our wages to where they are, we can't afford to work for what they'll work for.

Same here, immigrants will work for less money. That's why we have such a big debate about immigration over here. I'm sure you noticed it a little when you were over here last summer.

I didn't actually... was there much about it in the pubs? :p

but yeh, even here, the Irish illegals in the states get some sympathy from the media and I don't get it... they knew they were illegal going in so that's the fucking chance you take... I'd never go to a country illegally cos what's the point in that... at least the poles here are legal... and they're still undercutting!

    few more reasons:

English is a great lanuage to know, unlike other less spoken European languages, therefore ( i would assume ) English speaking countries will be a target for larger quantities of foreigners

UK has softly-softly approach, everyone ( i'm assuming ) knows that UK can't keep up with influx of immigrants, they don't keep their records properly...they don't know who's legal and who isn't....therefore there is an opportunity....also UK is just easy to get into, that's all.

and also everything that Duggro written in his post.
