Does anyone cook for their pets. I've got a cat named Kone...(Kone, Kone Zone, K-Man, Mr. Konning, Basketball Kones....etc...) and I would like to start cooking him a nice meal from time to time. Does anyone have anything that they cooked for their pet that turned out good. I want something with meat and veggies and reasonably healthy. Any suggestions would be great.

  • Cooking the meat ruins it for them. All they really need to eat is some raw organ meat, some glands, crunch on some raw bones and raw muscle meat....preferably all from the same animal. Avoid raw pork. Dogs can tolerate a little more veg I believe. Most canned and dry pet food is like eating McDonalds all the time. Breeders have to go raw or their pets go sterile after a few generations. Imagine that, your grandchildren become sterile through diet. That's how bad most pet food is.

There's a group of women that rescue "terminal" cases from kill shelters and totally rehabilitate them with raw diets.

When I was feeding my cat raw, it was a dramatic transformation. I used to buy the instincts TC formula http://www.felinefuture.com/

  • I make food for my 15 year old chihuahua! I boil chicken legs in chicken broth and I make white rice or brown rice! Ocassionally I will make him some toast with butter.

Onions, grapes, mushrooms, garlic, salt, raisins, chocolate, and gum are all very bad for your pet!!

My little guy got really sick a couple of years ago when he had bloody diarrhea and he vomited blood for almost four days. After the first night of course I took him to the doctor and they did a sonogram on his tummy. (he has insurance since he was born, so that worked out well) Anyway, he had pancretitis (sp?) and also he has a spastic colon. So ever since then I have made his food for him and he has been pretty good so far. His liver is showing signs of aging, but I mean he's 15 years old! I really would like to know other things to make him, he loves his chicken and rice. I spoil the hell out of him, but you know I don't have children, he is my kid...I have had him since I was fourteen and he is my sweet angel. :o I know the time is coming, and I will be a mess for a long, long, time.

I do it because it is better for him and I don't want his last years to be shitty!

My dog Petey is Raw fed....he loves it and once you do your research to learn all about amounts and exactly what to feed, it is no harder or expensive to do then going to the store for a bag of premium kibble.

    cannibal!

i feed my cat avoderm which is about as natural as i can find so far, doesn't have too many preservatives and such. when my cat trixie was dying, in the last month when she was starting to lose her appetite, i ended up cooking her meals....chicken, crab, salmon, you name it. had no other choice at that point, of course. now that i have winston i've considered going the natural food route. a friend of mine fixes her dog's food, she does it all ahead of time on the weekend so it's easy.

i'll check out that link roland posted, as long as whatever i make winston gives him the nutrients he needs, i'd be down for trying it out. it's scary how much crap is in pet food.

i bet that woman is just saying that so she can get 3 days off work when it dies.
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

There are a lot more canned and dry foods that are good for your animal now. I do agree that feeding raw is a great thing but there are a lot of higher end foods that are good for your animals.

Now if you're talking Dog Chow, Cat Chow, etc. you and I are in total agreement.

Agree. To my understanding the meat ingredients should not be listed as "by-products" anywhere. I looked after my brothers two cats for a couple weeks while they were away, and I fed them a high quality wet and slipped in some raw chicken hearts and gizzards to bump up the taurine content (most grocery stores have this in the meat section) ... the one guy who is 16, frail, and reclusive, put on a few pounds and became way more social and playful even. They came back and were immediately convinced of the whole diet issue.

I kinda torn on this issue.

I typically eat a mostly raw organic diet (when I can...not realistic all the time) and I know the benefits of it. I feed my cat Iam's Natural (though clearly not "natural" because it comes out of a bag).
I had two cats growing up that were given the random stuff out of a box or bag. One lived to be 20 and the other 19.

    I dunno.
