So i've got this ear infection in my right ear. It started out just aching a bit nothing more. I woke up this morning and my ear was swollen and all the curves in it are flat. My ear is red and has puss bubbles in it. I've been taking these drops my friend gave me from one of her ear infections and they seem to be helping. Anyone else know anything I can do. I'm broke and have no medical insurance. So going to the doctor is out of the question.

    That sounds pretty bad.

I know that when I take a decongestant, it helps clear out my sinuses and also my ears. It can't kick an infection, obviously....but it's a start. It is possible to get over an ear infection on your own, but yours sounds pretty serious. How long have you had it?
  • you need an antibiotic... I've gotten this ear infection before just like yours....

I've got some antibiotic drops that work in a day or less it's Neomycin/Polymixin or something like that only about $20 but you have to go to a Dr.

if you do go to a dr., ask them if they have any free samples because some of the ear meds are really expensive.

get insurance and get it treated, I had a freind who got an ear infection but was really lax about doing anything about it for treatment, the end reslt was permanant hearing loss.

You need to have some antibiotics...it is somethin that has to be treated from the inside.

you can also get some calendula leaves (or essence of calendula) and make a wash with some mint and just lightly dab some with a cloth on the ear for pain and swelling...but it wont do anything for the infection.

have you tried just buying penicillin?

get insurance and get it treated,
easier said then done. When your a broke twenty year old thats already a few grand in debt your choices are pretty slim. If I could just get insurance I would. I can't. Just another reason that Canada is looking better and better every day.

the pain has been going on for about five days. The pussing and swelling has been going on since yesterday. The pain wasnt bad until about an hour ago. Its starting to hurt more and more.

I hate to suggest this, but could you use a credit card to get some treatment?

I know, it's an awful thing to have to do. But you really should get some antibiotics.

It could be worse. My friend's appendix ruptured and she didn't have any insurance. She couldn't pay for it, and had to declare bankruptcy at age 23.

Trust me the thoughts gone threw my head but I don't have anything but a best buy credit card... For some reason I don't think the hospital will take that.
Over the past hour and a half the pain has died down a bit. Some friends gave me some more ear drops and some ibprofin. Im going to go to a med center tomorrow when I wake up.

Thanks for all the suggestions and help from everyone.

Wonder if Ear Candling would work at all?? Worth a try :)

(so glad that i'm in Australia where you can see a Dr for free if needed)

    Good luck with your ear!

Note* Is it possible that by using your friends Ear Drops you may have caught her infection?

oh man, dont screw around with these ear infections....go get some anitbiotics like everyone has said....i once had one from a swimming pool for 6 months..it was fungal in my ear so it kept growing and creating this pressure in there. i tried like 6 different meds. from drops to internal pills...nothing worked. at its peak i was pretty much bed ridden with pain in and out of a dream like state, it was pure hell it hurt so bad.....finally one morning i woke up and my entire pillow case was yellow and the thing had burst or whatever and it started to get better....but just do what you can to get help...if you get permanent hearing loss, you wont be able to enjoy pearl jam.

borrow money or do whatever. good luck my friend.
