So I have recently started bartending on Mackinac Island, MI. I was just wondering if there are any other Jamily members that bartend as well. Maybe we could share drink recipes and what not. Let me know.

  • fellow bartender here. its a great job, and met alot of interseting charecters , but don't get caught up too much into it. To me , it's like being a pycharist without a degree.

hey, Mackinac is awesome! Been a while since I've been there. Had a chance to go again but had to skip it to see Pearl Jam 5/19/06 :D

my step dad has a bar in his basement and makes his own beers, wines, and sodas. It's pretty cool. :)

The key is to get a lucrative bar gig and only work 2-3 days a week. Leaving you time to pursue other ambitions.

I've been a bartender for over two and a half years now... great job. Love it. Lots of fun, good money, interesting stories...
I started cocktail waitressing over the summer... worst job ever. Abuse, abuse, abuse. From the bartenders, from my boss, but especially from the customers. Never again, and I would never recommend it. It did, however, over the course of 4.5 months working roughly 20 hours a week pay for: 4 days in LA seeing eV, 11 days on the East Coast (four shows, including the Beacon), 6 days in Washington State, and the best summer of my life. When I wasn't working that is.
I quit the cocktail job a few weeks ago and now work at a hospital. It's quite the change. :) I still bartend "for fun".

Hey bartender hit me with a double
And introduce me to that girl with the bubble
  • I tended bar for YEARS...absolutely loved it.
Not sure how good I was towards the end, if anyone ordered anything other than a beer & a shot of whisky (or a straight, non-girly drink) I don't think I was very nice about it.
Making one too many Blow Job shots for screaming girls in cheap bridal veils will do that to you, I guess.

Great job. Great money, and at least you know you'll have job security no matter what!

If you get a request for an apple martini, don't put a cherry in it (don't let your waitstaff do it either). Should either be a green apple slice or a lime.

Just my tip as a bar patron... ;)
believe it or not, we don't "need" anything. that is only the spoiled brat in us trying to fill some temporary solution to an emptyness that does not exist.
