    best baseball game ever

Yeah, I'm gonna pick it up after work. I'm hoping they have it at Best Buy because I have $5 off! Good ol' Rewards Program.

Hey Hodge, I think you're on my PSN buddy list now. When you pick it up, we'll have to play.

    ign review:

March 4, 2008 - While the NFL and its exclusivity dealings have undoubtedly garnered more of the public spotlight than the MLB's, let us not forget that the deal that 2K struck eliminated one of the greatest (and my personal favorite) baseball series of all time in MVP Baseball -- particularly the '05 edition. Needless to say the bitter taste that was left in my mouth after EA's line of baseball games was squashed hasn't subsided in the last few years. That's mainly due to 2K's inability to recreate the fluid and fun style of gameplay that we saw more than three years ago.

when MVP baseball went away, i died a little inside...

so i did what any reasonable person would do: i stopped playing video games and starting posting on this board. :o

I don't mean to pirate the thread, but I've been playing The Show all night and it is nothing short of BADASS!

oh man that'd be killer to have someone to play online with

i've played a handful of nba 2k8 and have not had a good experience yet because of all the cheesers that play

i would be the toronto blue jays if we played
..and you will come to find that we are all one mind, capable of all that's imagined and all conceivable

Ahh, I wish I had a PS3 to play MLB 08 but oh well... The 2K games are never that good, every year it's supposed to be better than ever but it still doesn't live up to the hype. I just wished MVP was back...
    Stone Gossard...riffmeister extraordinaire!

I am a man, I am advanced.....I am the first man to borrow Stone's leather pants!

The demo for 2k8 is up on XBL today (if it wasn't up yesterday...) if you're looking to try before you buy.

Didn't get a chance to play 2K8 last night, but I'm really hoping to tonight.

I wish I had a PS3 to play the show, it sounds like it is the better game. I'm w/ the poster who said a part of him died when MVP did. That was an amazing game. I wish MLB would step in and tell 2K to get their shit together or they loose the exclusive rights.

Man...I've heard some really bad things about this game and that sucks. I only have a 360 so The Show isn't even an option for me.

I'll DL the demo and decide if I want to purchase it or not.

Everything negative I have read on the game has come from Show fanboys. I'm thinking it is probably just an average game. I bet it won't be MVP 05, but as long as it isn't MLB 2k6, I'm okay with it.

Really? I just based it off of the reviews I have read for it from multiple "non-partial" websites.

I think it's basically 2K7 with a little more glitz. It's nothing ground breaking, but it should be a solid play. They better get it right next year though.

I got 2k8 last night. The game seems to run a little slower than 2k7 and I just don't enjoy it too much. The roster updates caused my 360 to freeze up. I ended up having to delete the file just to get past the loading screen (apparently this is happening to a lot of people). I'm at the point now that I'm thinking about buying a PS3 and getting The Show.

I've read that if you turn the ticker off, the game runs a lot better. I don't have XBL, so that is a non issue to me.
  • While The Show seems to be far superior if you have a PS3, 360 owners obviously don't have a choice. I'm having a blast with the game and found it far more rewarding than any other baseball videogame I've ever played.

Some things that I did that may help others:

-Turn off all highlights, cutscenes, and tickers

    -Use the "aerial" fielding camera

-Commentary is slowing the game down as well, so that will help as well unless you like listening to three-year old dialogue

Basically, it's a caching issue with the hard drive. If you happen to have a memory card, the game apparently plays a lot better if you take off the hard drive and use the card instead.

Now I know it's not acceptable to have to find these workarounds to play a game (who do they think we are? PC gamers?), but it's better than nothing until they patch it.
