MLB 08 The Show

I bit the bullet last night and bought a PS3 with MLB 08 The Show. I'm selling the 360 and Wii. I played the game a bit last night and it's a lot of fun (much better than 2k8). The Road To The Show feature is great and very addictive.

I have one question for those that have the game: Is there a setting that allows you to see the celebration when your created player hits a home run in Road To The Show? I started out in AA Portland and finally hit my first homer and it went directly to the loading screen for my next appearance before I made it to first base. I don't know if I have all the stuff turned off or something. The way it works right now, I am only playing my at bats and the fielding plays where I get the ball. Any help is appreciated. I think I might have tweaked the settings to skip past all celebrations or something. Also, the loading time between appearances for my player seem very long, is this normal?

BTW, the game looks amazing.
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.

Wow, that was quick! Glad you like it, it's a damn fun game!
Road to the Show is worth buying the game itself.

I'm not sure. Not all batters will have a post homerun celebration. Some will watch the homerun after they hit it. Generally if it's a no-doubter then batter are more likely to watch it. If it just creeps over the wall, they you might not see anything.
I don't know...I'm still in spring training and haven't gotten close to hitting a homer yet! LOL!
You pick up any other games yet?
My PSN name is the same as my forum name (mca47), you should add me. There are a handful of us on the boards that are on.

Yeah, it was a quick decision for me but I was convinced by some here and on another board to make the PS3 purchase. My PSN name is also the same (adam42381). I played for about 5 hours last night and made it through spring training and about 5 regular season games. My player is a backup 3rd baseman (and sometime 1B) for AA Portland. I'm hitting pretty well but not much power yet. I've hit a total of 3 HRs (1 in spring and 2 in my first AA game appearance). It seems like my player only gets to play about 1/4 of the time or so. It feels like the loading time between plays is very monotonous. It will load for 30 seconds then I'll field a ball then load 30 more seconds so I can field again. Is it supposed to be that way? Also, the homeruns I hit, my player didn't stand and watch them or anything it just cut to the load screen again.
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.

I'm nearing the end of spring training for the Cubs. I'm a 2B, 3B. Right now I'm hitting around .350, with no HRs. I'm pretty sure I'll get a deal and start at AAA as I'm competing for the #2 spot at 2B in the orginization and doing much better then the other guy.
I hope I don't fall into a utility guy in the pros. That's a bad place to be. On my PSP I play The Show '07 and am stuck as a utility player. I get no time at all, and therefore cannot work much on my training. I think I'm going to request a trade soon.
In all "The Show's" I create a position player and a starting pitcher. I find being a pitcher is more fun. Granted, you only play every 5th game or so...but you play a lot longer in each game and get a lot of training points to work with (assuming you don't screw up too bad! lol)

I'm wondering how much I could get for my 360 and games and if it would come close to being enough to get a PS3.

I'm getting really sick of the red ring of death, and need a solid baseball game to play. After finally playing 2K8 last night, I can tell you, that that wasn't a baseball game...it was a trainwreck.

I haven't played a Baseball game since the old All-Star baseball games for PS2 (maybe 03ish?). I don't have a PS3, but I wish I did for The Show. I've been in the mood for a Baseball game for a while now, but I can't justify buying a PS3 for one game (I know there are a TON of good games for PS3, but my main reason right now would be The Show).

I am in the Red Sox organization. I hit .423 in spring training with 1 homerun and got stuck as a backup 3B in AA! I wasn't thrilled with that. I am going to create a pitcher as well. Good luck!

The 360 seems to be averaging around $220 on ebay with the 20gb hard drive and wireless controller. It varies quite a bit depending on the games you have. The total price for what I bought last night was right at $600 after tax at Best Buy to give you an idea of what you're looking at spending:

    40GB PS3 - $399
    Extra Wireless Controller - $49
    Component Cables - $20
    BluRay Remote - $25
    The Show 08 - $59
Replacement Plan $60 (I didn't purchase this; can add during first 30 days and probably will)
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.

Really? How so? (If you're referring to the so-called framerate issue, there are several workarounds until they get it patched.)

I've played pretty much every baseball game that's ever been made and while I would definitely get The Show if I had a PS3, I had more fun with MLB 2K8 than any other game I've played simply because they completely nailed gameplay, which to me is the most important thing.

I couldn't imagine going back to playing a game without analog controls now.

The framerate is part of it. I've turned off the cutscenes and everything. I don't have XBL so the ticker isn't a problem. It just doesn't run smooth at all.

I really think the graphics have been downgraded. I'm going to play it a lot more before I make my final decision. I really like the new pitching and throwing. I've gone to classic hitting. I hate having to mess with sliders to find the game to be the right difficulty, but I think once I get that it will be more enjoyable.

Also, why is it that changeups from a RHP break hard into a right handed batter. I'm throwing the pitch right, but it does that quite often.

I did all the fixes as well and the framerate just wasn't up to par. The graphics didn't look any better/worse than 2k7 to me. Once I popped in The Show last night the difference was HUGE! Graphically The Show is lightyears in front. I do like the right stick implementation on 2k8 but it didn't feel perfected yet. The best I've seen was actually MVP 2006 NCAA Baseball for regular XBOX believe it or not.

The thing is that I'm not a tech guy at all. Things like framerate, I just don't notice. I got so frustrated with everything with this game except the way it played. I think they're onto something with the controls.

The stadiums this year don't look as good either. Last year they were beautiful, but the grass and everything else just don't look very good.

I'm really not a tech guy either. I did notice when the game seemed to lag at times and jump around at other times. The way the camera pans across the field just doesn't look good. The fans don't look good either. I'm not saying The Show is perfect by any means. It has collision mapping issues (players running through each other/fences, home runs where you can see the ball through the wall, batted balls going through the pitcher, etc.) galore. It just looks way better and is more fluid from what I've seen.
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.

Thinking of picking The Show up tonight after work. Is everyone pleased with it so far?

I love this game. I just keep playing in exhibition over and over and over. Need to start up a Rod to the Show mode myself...

I really like it a lot! I play every night after work for a little while then again when my wife falls asleep for a little while longer. The game has a few issues but none that really take away from the game. Road To The Show is a lot of fun (even though the fielding part isn't really much fun). I would highly recommend picking it up. I'm going to start a Franchise soon then maybe venture into online play. One of the most addictive and best baseball games ever!

Road to the Show is a blast!
Especially as a pitcher. I have a secondbasemen and a pitcher and I play as my pitcher MUCH MUCH more.

Well, I picked it up last night, and I'm very glad I did. Played for about 4 hours, couldn't put it down. Thanks for the tips.

I love the option of being able to save within a game.

Yeah, I played last night too. Lost track of time and then realized it was 12:15 and I had to be up at 4:30 today!
    Damn game!! LOL

Anybody still playing? The online lag issues are so annoying that I refuse to play online. I'm still addicted to Road to the Show after all this time. I'm currently playing out the 2018 season with the DBacks. I was on the Red Sox for 3 years but got pissed when they sent me down during the ALCS when Pedroia came off the DL...after I had won the Triple Crown and hit 63 homers...
