Should I Buy a PS3?

I have an XBOX 360 Premium (20GB hard drive, 2 wireless controllers) with MLB 2k8 (wife bought it last night and it keeps freezing up at the load screen!), Guitar Hero III with Les Paul guitar and Madden 08. I also have a Wii (2 controllers, 2 nunchuks) with Wii Sports. I almost never play on XBOX Live except when a friend wants to play a game of Madden which is rare. I haven't played Wii since Christmas. I'm seriously thinking about selling both systems and getting the 40GB PS3. Does anybody know what kind of trade-in value I'd get at Gamestop for all the above? If I'd get ripped off too much, I'd probably try to sell on ebay. I really want to get enough to come close to covering the purchase of the PS3 ($400), wireless remote ($50), BluRay remote ($25), component cables ($20) and The Show 08 ($60). I have a $100 in gift cards to Best Buy and Circuit City ($50 each) to put toward it. I have heard pros/cons about the PS3 but I really want the BluRay player and I'm sick of the 360 and its unreliability. Any thoughts?
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.

Consoles are expensive! With games/contolers and upgrades you're talking over a grand in some cases. It kinda shocks me when I see the PS3 or 360 Bundles...2 controlers, 5 games, a headset, and guitar hero for $1200? From Toys R Us??

    :p

    Crazy!

You can get a pretty damm good PC for $1200, and games are still more in depth on PC's....and I can open a Word Document, browse the net, check my email, use Photo Shop, watch DVD's, have 600 Gigs of hard drive space for music, iTunes, Excel, do Power Point presentations, use AutoCad and download pron.

I'm thinking ebay might be my best option. I looked into selling on Amazon but they charge 15% of the sale price and seller pay for shipping (they give $3.99 credit toward shipping).

If your thinking of a PS3, chip in the extra cash and get the 80GB version. It comes with the Motorstorm game which is fun and you will thank yourself on down the road. I have both and while the Xbox is great as far as the ammount of games, if I had to just have one, it would be the PS3 hands down. Ebay is defiantely the way to go as far as selling your stuff. Call of Duty on either is the way to go as well. It's addictive...

If I get one it's gonna be the 40gb. I can always upgrade the memory down the line. I don't really see the need for 2 extra USB ports or the card reader. I also have no need for backward compatibility.

No more 80GB bundle with Motorstorm in stores unless you get lucky. Sony has a new 80GB bundle coming out in June with MGS, 80GB PS3 and a Dual shock controller

Can do most (if not all) of the same things on a PS3 for less than that price.

Adam, I'd wait for this one.

Not only do you get a 80GB (which is BC...I think), but you get the perhaps the best game coming out this year in Metal Gear Solid 4, and a Dual Shock 3 controller.

And it will give you some time to sell the stuff/systems you don't want anymore...and get what they are worth and maybe save up a little $ too.

If you can't wait, I'm not sure what that other stuff would bring in but I would imagine you'd have more then enough to get a PS3, and those accessories, plus a game or two.

    Also...

One thing many people don't realize is that many Blockbuster stores have 80GB combo packs still.
    80GB system
    Game (or two)
    5 Blu-ray discs
    Controller (maybe 2)
    Remote
all in one. Maybe one of the last places you can get a 80GB before June.

I still don't have a PS3 yet but I might just wait till this bundle comes out. I think the retail price is supposed to be the same as the Motorstorm bundle.

    Isn't the MG bundle a 40G system?

OP - used game stores won't give you anywhere close to a fair deal on your systems unless you catch them at promotion time, which is usually the older stuff.

Damn thats a good deal. I read about that a week or so ago and completely forgot about it.
With all the space these new games are gonna take up, I am thinking the 80gb is gonna be a must before long.

In the meantime call Xbox to get your shoddy system replaced.

The problem with PC gaming is trying to keep up with the latest tech to keep your rig up to play the latest games on what the developers think you should play them on. Atleast with consoles you don't have to check system reqs. such as video card, sound card....etc. You just pick up the game and play.

    Anyway...to the OP

Sit on it dude. The PS3 is going to have a price drop. You'll save some dough on that.

But if you do sale...do it on ebay or something. Trading in with rip you completely off. If you're going to sell the 360 via ebay or something be prepared to do the following:

Take video of you booting up the 360 and going through the user interface and starting up a game.

Take either video or picture of the "Microsoft" warranty stick found under the face plate to show that it is intact and has never been tampered with.

And provide information about whether it is a refurb or original console.

Oh, and before you sale it, make sure you erase any credit card data from the card so someone won't be able to charge your account once they get it.

    Yep.
Soooo many 360s on ebay right now are either a) Tampered with b) don't work c) are missing parts d) or freeze up upon loading, etc.

In order to get the $, you need to show yours is in good shape, works, and hasn't been F'ed with. You will be able to get a LOT more then the local video game shop.
