How To Hide Pictures On My PC? Help!

edited February 2008 in All Encompassing Trip
The wife took some sexy photographs for me for Valentine's Day and currently I have them saved in a folder in My Documents. I'm running Vista Ultimate if that matters. I want to see if there is a way to hide the pictures or password protect them so that only she and I have access to them. We have friends and family over quite often and they are always on my computer and I would hate to have them stumble upon something like that. Is there a program I can download to put a password on the files or a way that I can do this through Vista? I'd hate for some nosy person to search for all photographs and have those pop up. Thanks for your help!
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.

You should be able to select the folder as 'hidden'. At least, XP would allow you to do that.

Put them on a USB flash drive or something. That's all I can think of. Or send them over to me, I'll keep them safe :D

  • You should just accept that they're going to eventually be seen by your friends and family, and just put them up on photobucket already. :D

Can't help you but thought it was very funny.
My friend is a computer analyst various friends always get him to fix problems with their computers. He has found all sorts of shit when cleaning up their programmes, home made porn/photos etc.We then ply him with alcohol and he tells us what he found and we have a good laugh.
Sorry probably just made you worry more ;)

Could you not tell relatives the computers broken until you find a more helpful solution?

  • Put the photos on a floppy ;)

Who the heck knows what a floppy is anymore anyways? And you can password protect a floppy or a rewriteble cd.

If you want the photos at the ready for when the better half is out of town you could paste them on to a word document. Word documents can be set with a password per document. Tools-Options-Security-enter password-return-reenter password. That is one way.

Bitlocker encrypts. Or just make them only accessible to the owner.. right click the dir where they are kept and go to properties.. there should be something there to set permissions on the folder.. Put them inside their own folder inside the my docs folder, then just make that one folder not accessible except to that user. Just remember tho, any admin with full rights should be able to view all files on the system, unless you go with bitlocker or something like that that requires an off system key for encryption. I'm sitting on a XP machine at the moment, or I would run through the procedure and spell it out for you.. If you're so inclined with computers, you will figure it out.

    Peace

  • E-mail them to me. Your family and friends surely won't find any pictures of her on my computer

    just remember the folder's name.
    you'll need it when searching.
also you have to include "hidden when" searching.

I went ahead and made the folder hidden on my PC. The pictures still come up when searching for all pictures but not full size images. Of course there are ways of viewing them individually from there via Paint but hopefully they're hidden well enough. Thanks for the tips. Sorry guys, I can't share them with you...

  • Hmm, I don't particularly want to see the pictures but here's a tip - why don't you create a guest account for your family and keep yours to yourself? I don't know much about vista but you can do this in XP - If I had someone who wanted to use my comp on a regular basis I'd just give them their own login and password and they can use their space their way, including using the internet. That way all your stuff is hidden from them and you don't have to worry anymore!

Put different username on the start up. So you have one with passsword protection. Then ur friends can have another user but they don't have a password.

I don't think that Playgirl would want pictures of the wife. I think you might have meant Playboy...
