this may be old interview but...

(as per http://www.fivehorizons.com/archive/articles/backfire_may01.shtml )

Dawn Anderson: Here's a question. What's the worst Pearl Jam song?

Mike McCready: Oh, wow. What do I not like of ours that we play? Maybe some odd song that we don't ever play called "Bugs." I get a little tired of playing "Corduroy", but don't tell Eddie that because he'll get pissed. We play that almost every night.

mike is tired of playing corduroy....but still the band keeps playing it... they really don't listen to mike after all:D

well you know it really is mike's fault... if he didn't fuck up so much on songs *coughevacuation* then maybe they wouldn't need to play their back up so often :D

The "Evacuation" fiasco was Stone's fault, or his guitar tech.

If you're talking about previous performances, then Mike and Stone are equally at fault for not learning how the fucking song goes.

hmm well lookit that. but he does fuck up other songs, like MITS (that was a funny one :D) and i was trying to make a funny! (and apparently i crashed and burned :D)

It's hard to tell what happened, but if you listen you can hear that Stone is playing a step lower than everybody else from the start, and there's a big out-of-tune clash. Mike and Jeff stop playing at several points because of the gawdawful noise, while Stone strums away oblivious. Finally, Stone realizes what's going on and waves the song to a halt. Then he has a conversation with his guitar tech. Unfortunately, they moved on to the next song instead of trying again.

I actually never get sick of hearing corduroy. I wish they would tone down playing Do the Evolution. I know Eddie has said in the past it's his favorite song off Yield but I hear it on every boot I own practically.

I think the real problem here is, quite simply, that Evacuation is a shit song! Stone and Mike are taking it in turns to fuck it up in the hope that it will force the band to stop playing it! :-)

Corduroy is one of the songs that I'll never get tired of hearing live

I totally agree with this. It used to be one of my favorite songs, but now i pretty much skip it every time I am listening to a boot. It is tired and needs to rest for few years.

Never skip Corduroy, but I do skip Yellow Ledbetter a LOT. I've never muched care for the song. and probably would never listen to it except for the Little Wing tag at the end of Hartford '08 boot.
  • I think Corduroy kind of marks EV's coming of age on guitar and that's why Mike is pissed off they play it every night. He's probably like "da-na-na-na-dan-da" yeah cool riff now give it a fucking rest. And then he goes "hey ed can you do this?" and shreds. But seriously I love the song and it does get the crowd going. Maybe they could try putting Alone in it's place for a tour.
    Things were different then

Columbia '08 was the first show out of eight that I've attended where they did not play Corduroy. I have to say that it felt like something was missing, but it was also a nice change of place.

mike is tired of playing corduroy....but still the band keeps playing it... they really don't listen to mike after all:D

I think they might listen to Mike better now that are a bit older. I saw that in the infamous mtv music award clip, where Eddie says, "I don't know what this means,; I don't think it means anything," Mike goes up to talk and I think it was Stone who puts his hand on Mike's back, kind of like saying, "ok, if he gets stupid I can stop him"......that's kind of what it looked like. Like you know, the drunk uncle/cousin/brother, etc that is at like your family party that gets drunk and embarasses you when he says stupid shit so you keep close watch on him when your new gf is around? sort of,.......
That doesn't mean that I think Mike is a fool but I just get that impression after hearing him in other interviews when he talks about his drinking days and how he is sober now.
But truth be told, I kind of think that some of the stuff we here in interviews are either hyped up, added to, or just plain bs to get the masses crazy.....in all arenas.

oh, and btw, I think that Eddie knows all and sees all...........you know?

I don't remember how old that interview is, but hey, maybe its a tradeoff - Ed gets to play Corduroy and Mike gets to do Evenflow! I do not get tired of either song.

I shit and I stink. I'm real, join the club.

A friend, he called, I didn't mention a thing. The last thing he said was, "Be sound". Sound. I contemplated an awful thing, I hate to admit. I just thought those would be such appropriate last words. But I'm still here.
