he sang that in DC, dunno if he sang that at later concerts.. plus black kind of lost some meaning to him, he, i guess, got over it, since he's been known to say "we didnt belong together" or something to that effect in some recent versions.

i found the 'we didn't belong together' tags more soulful, sad and meaningful.

    "We Didn't Belong Together".

"Black" is better live these days than ever before. Mike's solo wasn't as striking back in the day as what it is now.

These days it totally up front and a centerpiece all to itself.

I havnt heard a version since 94 anyway on which Jeff & Stone sang the tutututu bit.....

sure the tags been done and revived lately, but Jeff & Stone dropped off the vocals for it around mid 90's....i want to check my 95 shows now cos im curious ....

I never usually chime in on the opinion based threads, however I feel I must on this one.

I defy anyone to come up with a cleaner, more emotion filled solo from The Master than is on the LO2L release.

Listen to it and get back to me.

He sings it with no mike :) - and tututututut are there :)
"Want you , In My, Rearviewmirror........."
  • I'm partial to the version EV sang in Seattle on 7/21/98.
Just took out a boot of the show to listen again.
He holds the last note when singing "all that I'll be".
Mike was awesome on this one. It is a "classic" version.

Although I like this version the best the LoTL version is a supreme treat.

I agree. I will say that Unplugged is my favorite because it's the show that introduced me to Pearl jam. I had never heard a set of songs done like that- just incredible.

Then I get LO2L, and that solo Just moved my soul and gave me some peace. It is beautiful. Sometimes I just listen to the solo on that version over and over. I love the way Ed sings the " my bitter hands cradle broken glass" part on this particular version too. Not sure why, I just do.

Me too!!! I had seen Jeremy on MTV & liked it -- thought Eddie's eyes were riveting -- but it was seeing Black on Unplugged that hooked me. I went out the next day & bought Ten, and couldn't believe how incredible every song was. Not too many groups can make every song on an album terrific.
