I was thinking about running a half marathon this summer, but my endurance running is absolute shit. Any suggestions to start building the ol' muscles?

    Run....alot.

Start off slow....gradually increase your distance and pace.

EAT....distance running burns tons of calories and requires tons of carbs.

If you're of average hieight/weight, you should be taking in 4000+ calories a day when your training is in full swing. I've been reading Food for Fitness by Chris Charmichael. Some great ideas for high energy food in there! It's no diet book, it's for people who are serious about training.

You have to build a weekly mileage basis....probably somewhere between 15-30 miles a weeks.....start doing a long run once a week.....work up from 5-6 miles for the first long run, and gradually build up every week to about the distance you want to run in the race (13.1 miles/26.2 miles), then taper down as the race approaches. My longest pre-marathon runs were always no more than 20 miles, and I finished all four marathons that I attempted.

Yeah, I've been doing a lot of cross-training as well as running. There's a trail in Seattle called the Burke-Gilman, and I've been running on that 4-5 times a week. But I haven't seen a whole lot of improvement in the last few weeks.

I agree with the run-a-lot theory. Burke-Gilman is a nice route. Man, Seattle is HILLY! If you can run there, you can run ANYWHERE, even San Francisco.

You want results, run up and down Queen Anne Hill. Ha! You'll definitely get results that way. I never did that :D

I also plan on doing a half marathon soon, I am a personal trainer so it will be nice to use my knowledge for the training.
