Yup, been to the ER twice because I thought I was having a heart attack. It's so hard to tell people you're having a panic attack because they think you're just anxious about something. They've hit me at the most random times when I'm not even stressed.

I have noticed a pattern where they happen a lot at the begining of dinners with clients...I think it's kind of a thing where I know I'm going to be stuck in a situation for a while with no out, and I get a fight or flight response or something.

Anybody get these? In the last week or so, I've been starting to get them I think. It's a weird feeling. :(

one of the worst things in the universe. Get a complete physical. Thyroid, cardiology, etc. Rule out physical things. Then, godspeed. Read up on it, but don't become a cyberchondriac. Focus on the positive info and news regarding these incidences, because its way too easy to get caught up in the negative reports.

i think the fight or flight thing has something to do with it too. or can, imo. the adrenaline runs amok and suddenly its like you're a caveman facing a sabertooth tiger, only to realize you're just standing in your kitchen. but the immense fear is the same.
    horrible.

i am on day 25 of a "no drinking for 60 days" thing. and i think i got my first panic attack a week ago or so. i was lying in bed trying to sleep and i couldnt breathe. i knew it was mental and just made myself breathe deep and slow and it went away and i fell asleep, but i was right on the edge of giving in and freaking out. maybe it was my body saying "give me alcohol" this is the longest ive gone in years.

Can I ask, what is the "no drinking for 60 days" thing? Is this a type of program? Or something else? Just curious.

I think he's preparing for the My Morning Jacket shows in Portland. He'll have to drink then. :D

Well, I haven't had one in about 4 days. Hopefully it stays that way. Thanks to everyone for the advice and the messages. :)

its just a little break im taking. to make sure i could do it and to get my head straight. i work in the restaurant industry and its always around and all my coworkers are alcoholics so, i just wanted and needed to be sure i could stop. ive inspired a few of the to stop, but not one has made it passed day 4. im on day 28 now, so yeah its no big deal after all. but i did choose these 60 days because there were no concerts to go to,but then NIN in seattle came up and i still made it through with no drinking. we had lattes during the show! haha, so lame.

in short, i just wanted to take a break from it and see who i was and how life was without it. its fucking great and way better. save money, never feel like shit, not controlled by a substance and clearer thinking.

Its on in portland though, Rickys right!

I started getting them at 13, and my Dr said I had Reflux, turned out he was wrong
Been on meds for about 12 years now, all good.
Sometimes get a flutter in my chest here and there, but alot better than before.

Get it checked, cause if you leave it, it kinda just snowballs and is harder to treat.

    Good luck :)

Mine didn't pound, but I could tell it sped up a little bit. I thought I was just having one again, but that may be because I've been up for the last 16 hours and have been staring at a screen for 12 of them.

There was an article in my newspaper yesterday about panic attacks.
I used to get them very frequently, but they have been taken care of for the most part.
The article said that there is no physical harm being done to your body during or after a panic attack, even though you would think so, right?
That lingering feeling is just the nausea that is common during the aftermath.
And you don't have to start taking meds because panic attacks are usually only about 10 min long.
Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel right when you're gone away

I get them once and a while...
after stress at work or an argument..
It usually comes up a few days later...
    BUT only then really...
I would not recommend the doctor...unless you can't handle it yourself. They will just recommend meds...
and then that will be another problem later on...
    ;)
