Just got home from work and remembered that there are like 15 new HD channels for Comcast subscribers today. Sweet! :) (even though the signal is now more compressed :( ) ;)

I can now watch the 700 club, Bunnytown, and CNN Newsroom in glorious HD!

Time Warner finally got around to adding 5 yesterday. It's such bullshit that they don't just add them all

I'd rather they not add them all until they get some more bandwidth so that the signals aren't all compressed to the point of killing the HD experience. Either that or work it like the On Demand programming and stream only the HD channel you are currently watching to your box, so the the signal is uncompressed.

Yeah, I have a 60 inch 1080p plasma and I think the HD channels on Comcast look like shit...when i walk up close to the TV can really tell that they are compressing the signal

what do you mean compress? is that when it looks like crap when you are up close, or is that when it gets messed up when you change channels and takes awhile to load that channel

Basically because of lack of bandwidth, cable companies are starting to compress the quality of HD channels. So instead of one channel being broadcast on one signal, there may be as many as 3 channels being sent on one signal. It's much like taking a FLAC audio file and converting it to an MP3, because of the compression some things are lost. I haven't noticed it much on my HD channels but there are times when it is quite evident.

some channels looks like crap up close regardless of compression or not. As for the slow load times, its actually the opposite. With more compression, channels load faster, with no compression it takes longer for the channel to load.

    good article about it...

Fuck cable. Direct TV is my choice. I have so many HD channels it's unreal. I pay just over $100.00 a month and I get every movie station as well. The cable companies have screwed us for so long it's unreal. I can't wait till Verizon gets FIOS to my house for internet. I have it at work and it rules.

I'll never deal with Comcast again if I don't have to.

Never had any major problem with Comcast and if I want local sports, I HAVE to have Comcast.

That blows. I get NESN (Red Sox) with HD with Direct TV.

I just get pissed with their internet because it's $60 a month and my Company pay $20 more for FIOS and it kicks Comcasts ass. Very sore subject with me.

I pay about $190/month with taxes and get every premium channel, the sports package, have a HD DVR and a 2nd box as well as internet and phone service. Plus my rate is locked in for 2 year (well about 1 1/2 years now).
