Making sales calls for a LTL trucking company - Con-Way. Made 23,500/ year in 1996 and was so excited at the time. Lasted about 3 months before I quit and got something else.

$25,000/year doing marketing, dealer relations, event staffing and technical assistance for Ford Special Vehicle Team.

The pay was shit but I was getting paid to talk about cars all day long. Plus staying on the road quite a bit in the summer wasn't bad at all. Managed to do quite a bit of writing and PR work for SVT and the Shelby Mustangs and TONS of crap for Ford Racing in NASCAR and Champ Car during that time. Lasted 7 years before I bounced.

Temporary factory worker in the plastic molding department of an appliance manufacturer. I worked nights from 7PM-7AM for 4 days on and 4 days off. It paid $7.00/hr. I did it for 8 months or so until I interviewed and hired for a salaried position at the same company that paid $16K per year on 3rd shift.

When the mother told me she had a "that time of the month" accident in her underwear and that she needed me to hand soak and wash it so it wasn't ruined.. I left.

College Prof $42k for 9 months of work...doesn't suck so much other than the fact that I make less than what I owe for college loans.
  • Graduated in '95 and worked as tech support for a software company, $24K/yr. In the 3 months I was there, the company announced they were shutting down, but the tech support people had jobs for 2 more weeks because the customers were paying for it, within those 2 weeks they announced that we had been bought by another company and everyone's jobs were back. I had already found another job writing code, which is what I really wanted to do.

I worked a $9 hour retail job for a few months. Then I got a $10 and hour (+ small commission) retail job in another city. It wasn't much money, but I liked the lack of responsibility and I was having a really great time, so I stuck with that for a while. When I couldn't live on a that paycheck any longer, I got a job in my field.
  • I worked in PR for Revlon. Awesome job. People SUCKED. I lasted exactly 6 months, then I moved to Colorado and became a DJ.

I worked an overnight job in a group home for abused children. I had to stay up all night and make sure the kids stayed in their rooms and I had to clean up the house. That was in '96. I think I worked 4 days on and 3 days off? or vice versa. I didn't mind it at the time b/c I'm a night person. I don't remember how much it paid. Probably like 20 something. It lasted 6 months and then I went to Cali (moved to be w/someone)
and got a job as a 'teacher's assistant' in a day program for dev.disabled adults. I had to change diapers! At that point I was like 'um, I need to go back to school' :)

    and now I'm a social worker :)

i was an assistant manager for a clothing store (started in aug. '02)...i think i made around $27k. i was there for around 9 months...then fired...and unemployed for 7 months. i worked as a hostess for a bit to cure my boredom. and then urban outfitters called and i've been there ever since...with my salary almost double what i started out at. i never thought i'd still be in retail...i was just going to do it until i found a marketing job that i liked.

I had a college degree and wiped tables for a living!

I just didn't have the party all out of me so I used the atmosphere and down time to live it up in San Diego!

    ahhhh...those were the days....

While I was readying myself to go to college, lacking a math credit,
I got a job at a flower shop.
Went instead to American Floral Art school in Chicago,
and landed a job with the most prestigious shop in Milwaukee,
    Jim Manders.
It was a nice run til babies came along.
