a lot of debates regarding matt's drumming. that he is blah blah here & blah blah there. but for you, what's his best drumming in studio songs so far?

for me, it's severed hand. especially the towards the end part. so sick!!!

    Jesus Christ Pose

    Holy shit.
There is no doubt that his drumming on Badmotorfinger was the best he's ever done. And Jesus Christ Pose is his best work on the drums.

I was led to believe we were only talking about Pearl Jam recordings.

I'm a big Matt Cameron fan but honestly, what the hell is so special about JCP?

Just because its a song that revolves around a drum rythm doesn't make it uber special. I've heard him play it live, ive heard others imitate it. It really isnt THAT hard. Its a little tricky, but nothing incredible. Wanna listen to a song that revolves around a drum rythm that is very hard? Listen to Ticks and Leeches. I have been MUCH more impressed with matts playing in other SG songs and live recordings from PJ than jesus christ pose. Personally I think all of these SG songs have more interesting drumming that JCP:

    Slaves and bulldozers
    Like Suicide
    Rhinosaur
Applebite(simple as hell, but the fact that matt wrote this eery ass song makes me :) )
Switch Opens (love the tom fills at certain parts, forgot when)

and Harrybu Mccage showcases Matts best drumming. Theres no debate.

With Soundgarden - I love his work on Head Down
    With PJ - Rival

From the sounds of it I should be getting his Jazz album. Worth it?

I feel that JCP is sort of a signature performance by Matt, not that it's too hard. I think it's interesting though, so my opinions differ from yours. I personally think Slaves and Bulldozers is more boring on the drums than JCP too, I do love that song however.
Harrybu Mccage is something different, but I'm not sure if it's his best drumming. I think his work with Soundgarden was better, but that's just my opinion once again.

well worth it. it has a great mixture of songs. Some are slow, some are just plain cool, one has a psychadelic/funk thing going for it (last song) one of them is kinda heavy (matts song), etc. Not to mention, matts drumming is not only spectacular, but he produced the album. And whoever recorded the drums did a perfect job. (guessing matt did?)
