Somebody give me some inspiration......

Part of me wants to work on some art for self satisfaction or some designs for my portfolio. I graduated from college alittle less than a year ago as an art major and have been working as a fitness trainer and starting a printing position very soon. I have done just a few freelance jobs but basically nothing else on my own since college and I am starting to feel like I am getting further and further away from something that I once really enjoyed doing.

Get your camera and go on a photography assignment, just enjoy the day taking pics. You'll find lots of inspiration from what you photograph.
Oh and take yourself off on some cultural jaunts. I always find I'm much more creative after a day at an art gallery or a play, or concert.

Feed your creativity and see what you can come up with. :)

I know how you feel, I wanted to be a journalist. Liberal arts is a tough field if you don't have connection or lack of networking abilities.

I'm in the process of finding a new passion right now, pretty much gave up on everything I've ever dreamed about before.

My problem is that I have too many passions I guess you could say. Art is kind of my natural talent (at least the skills are) and at times I have brilliant ideas and other times my ideas are shit. Towards the end of college I think I started to become too much of a perfectionist and I think it not only hurt what I was making but also burned me out of ideas.

It doesnt help too that fitness is also a passion, music is a passion, and films are a passion. I sometimes wish I could just focus on one thing and become the best I could be at it.

Have you thought about focusing on one particular field and make a name of yourself first in that field and then branch into other areas once you have a good stand on that field.

Not really because I do not want to fall behind with something like I feel I am doing right now.

That'll be a lot to balance though.

Is there a big entertainment community in Wisconsin- I don't mean in terms film/music industry but more like local theater/music programs. Get involved in those as a worker or volunteer and do some art/fitness as a hobbies; or vice versa...etc...???

:) Inspiration comes from strange places sometimes. Well I find.
I guess from what you've described you're not focusing on creativity at the moment, your day job is more physically oriented than cerebral? But there's probably even inspiration to be had from your day job if you shift your focus perhaps? I guess now that you are beginning to think about your creativity again, you'll look at things with "new eyes" so to speak and that will have a flow on effect.

There's a few good threads around the pit about art, books and movies, perhaps you could start with them and see if anything piques your interest? :)

Oh and something else that's always really helped me, I went to a NLP course once a long time ago and we got this excercise to complete for the week. We had to change a few of our habitual behaviours for a week just to see what the view was like doing things differently. It's simple enough, I spent a week picking different routes home from work and instead of eating dinner on the lounge in front of the tele I set the table with fancy cutlery and china and had a glass of wine with my meal, made an event of it. OH and instead of watching my usual programs on tv I made myself change over to something on SBS or read poetry for an hour instead. It made a huge difference to my outlook and creativity and exposed me to a whole new view and now I do it regularly. :) Maybe you could try that? :)

Go quietly amid the noise and haste. Remember what peace there is in silence. :)

I have it all over the house! :D

In the noisy confusion of life, keep peace with your soul. For all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful, strive to be happy.

    What about graphic design?

This girl I'm seeing is a graphic designer (and I had many friends in college that were doing that).
Steady gig, always work available...still very creative...

That's the new modern art! Always seeing Help Wanted ads for them.
I love computers and Web stuff, might look into that area. :)

Ive been looking but I am a bit picky about what I would be doing in design. It also doesnt help that I do not know how to do web design and I feel my portfolio should be better. Some of the jobs dont pay shit either.

When I need inspiration, I go for a walk in the woods.
Or sit by some sort of moving water. A brook, the ocean, a waterfall.
If you live in the city...take your camera and go crzy.
Hole yourself up in the library and pour over architecture books, art books, photography books. Or take a bunch out and sit by the moving water.

Do you play music or just love to listen to it?
We have an awesome public access radio station here. You could volunteer and have your own time slot. :) And with my station you can play and say whatever you want....it is completely funded by the people...no gov't money.
    Good luck. :)

i hear that! back when i finished my MA - i was a photo major - i had ZERO desire to pick up my camera nor be in the darkroom for a good year. i had spent the last two years constantly either taking pictures or locking myself in the darkroom for hours on end. it was GOOD to take a break from all that. besides which, i was teaching 4 days a week then, so most of creativity was sucked up thinking of art lessons for my students. in time, the desire and inspiration simply *comes back*....and the past couple years i have REALLY been into it all again. not so much the darkroom - although it is still there if i want it - b/c now i shoot almost exclusively digital. you'll get it back.....just give yourself time, your life has changed a lot and will continue to. once you feel some rythym again, you'll find the desire to create once more. i don't think it ever leaves...

    good luck and enjoy! :)
    Stay with me...

Yeah, the pay can be a bit low (at first) but once you get the experience you can make some decent money.
Also, for many of the GD jobs you don't necessarily need to know web design.
