drumming threads/polls are proliferating again. so i wanna take advantage of this. :)

Matt Cameron has been a drummer for Seattle greats Soundgarden & Pearl Jam, and also for Temple of the Dog.

the question is: can we consider Matt now as one of the best drummers of all time? is he on the top echelons of the drumming world?

He is a good drummer but certainly not a legend. He isn't even top 20 worthy.

How can you possibly quantify something like this?

he'll never get the credit he deserves but he's surely a legend. he's the drummer of the two of the greatest bands of all time. and trivia buffs will tell you that he is the first of many, many drummers for the Queens of the Stone Age.

there is a poll in other music talking about this very sam subject.

I think he is a very good rock drummer. I think him, jimmy chamberlin, and dave grohl were some of the better drummers from the 90's rock bands, but legendary i don't think i would use that term for matt.

That said i like him a lot and he is very good. He just does not hold a candle to some of the jazz and metal greats.

I really like him as a drummer but I don't think he's a legend. Eddie Vedder is a legend, Chris Cornell is a legend, Kurt Cobain is a legend, not Matt Cameron. He's definitely a prominent figure.

Matt Cameron has personality on a drumset. his sound is his own. and that more than anything else is what make's a world class drummer. Alot of Metal greats and Jazz greats are impossible to pick out because they play too much and too much of the same junk. Some of the best drummers can be picked out by the simplest groove. John Bonham, Elvin Jones, Jimmy Chamberlin, Matt Cameron, Josh Freese, Danny Carey. These are my favs cause they have their own sound.

yes but somewhere in this you have mention his new adventures in hip hop.

    haha haha
he is letting timbaland produce his next album.

I know I know it will be the next david bowie, but if Chris was a legend he would produce his own shit at this point. He used to be a legend, somwhere before he broke it off with Soundgarden.

Portnoy is in tons of stuff

    He graduated from berkeley.
his main band is dream theater 10 albums
he is in liguid tension, all instrumental 3 albums
trans atlantic 2 albums more rock oreiented but still progressive
    osi progressive rock 2 albums
he runs drum clinics all over the world
he is always in modern drummer last time i checked anyway

he is a beast, prob the most talented ever, but his songwriting is weird.
Some people have religion I have Pearl Jam.
