I was about 5, and it was the middle of Winter in Texas (it gets pretty cold there). We were living in an apartment complex while our house was being built, and there was a pool there. My Mother had told me to stay away from it. I had just had swimming lessons the previous Summer. Supposedly, a poodle had fallen in and was stuck on the bottom. Not true as of later, but...
I am an only child, so my imagination was my best friend and I was a bit (how do you say it), "precocious"? I got all bundled up--three layers of clothes, coat, hat, scarf, boots and mittens (mittens, with no fingers). I told her I was going to play outside (it was 1977, and you could still play outside by yourself at that age). I, of course, headed straight to the pool.
I think I can remember that the gate was open, and unlocked. I know I remember walking around the pool, looking for the "frozen" poodle. I knelt down by the deep end step rails, leaned over, and in I went. The pool had about 1/2" of ice on the top, and I can remember going in and looking up through the water (it was nasty) and the ice. I kept trying to grab the side of the pool, but my hands kept slipping off--mittens. Somehow, I got to the step rails and was able to pull myself out. There wasn't ice directly attached to the rails--I have no idea why.
I skulked around outside for about 20 minutes, worried that I was going to get a switch to the butt. My mother said she saw me walking past the front window a few times, but didn't notice that I was drenched. When I finally came in, she was angry, but relieved that I wasn't going to be the frozen thing at the bottom of the pool.
It kind of makes me want to vomit thinking about it.
Take care,
I still want you all to "take care"--I am just damn tired of typing it.
Almost got hit by a pickup truck. I was going to Mt. Hood one day with some friends, it was a complete Blizzard. We were on an access road and I was helping push my friends jeep out of the side of the road, because we were stopped and it was not going forward. I'm pushing the car from the backdoor on the roadside. Suddenly I hear this loud noise coming at me. I turn around and this old 70's truck comes charging at me with one of those giant side mirrors that are like 2 1/2 long coming at my head out of control. I dove to the ground and the mirror went over my head and ripped the door off of my friends jeep. My friends thought I got taken out. They came around the other side and I was just laying there in the snow. Close call for sure.
Im not sure if I would die..but I did have a very bad allergic reaction to shellfish a year ago.
If it is like alot of other allergic reactions, your throat can start closing up. I am allergic to penicilin and I could die from that if I took it long enough.
