this is trivial, really, but it honestly got me intensely mad.
i was walking over to subway just now [for the sake of me being frustrated at the moment i'll put in there that for you emissions lovers, it was one block, and i did not self-combust, die of exhaustion, get pneumonia from the cold.. etc ] i was walking across the parking lot adjacent to the sidewalk. a group of four girls, maybe 17 years old - likely high school students - were walking up the sidewalk in the opposite direction. One deliberately THREW her cup of icecream forwards onto the sidewalk in front of her smiling friend. Maybe I was mistaken? So I turned and walk towards the road, looked where she had thrown it and sure enough there it was lying on the ground.
So I yelled to her as she was walking away "Was it too heavy for you to carry? Too difficult?" and she turned around and her friend and her gave me a dirty look. The only other thing i could do was to sarcastically note how mature she was, pick up the garbage and throw it out myself.
It bugs me not so much that she littered, but the mentality she had to do it. It was like she got some sort of satisfaction out of it.
I'm wondering what she's trying to prove, that she's cool because she litters? That she's cool because she obviously doesn't give a fuck? She's proving to the world she has angst? Maybe mommy and daddy didn't buy her a pink iPod nano for her birthday so she's gotta show the world she's a rebel.
I guess she doesn't see it as the only thing she proved was that she was too weak to carry a 300 gram container of half eaten ice-cream. Too idiotic to be mature and carry it to the garbage bin a block up the road.
And I can only make the assumption that her ideals stretch to more important things, and thats what really starts to bug me.
Hey, it hasn't been long at all since I was a teenager (technically only a few months), it hasn't been long at all since I was in high school. But you're fucking weak if you think littering is proving your worth to your friends (Or anything irresponsible for that matter) and don't try and tell me I wouldn't understand "what its like to be a teenager these days, growing up in a peer-pressured environment". I had half a mind to sick the dog on her, only I feed my dog quality food and not pieces of garbage.
Maybe its just me and my circle of friends who get bothered by this. We'd get frustrated when we saw our peers act like this. And it frustrates me to know that our generation should be the one trying to make a change, when a lot of people really DONT GIVE A FUCK.
/end rant.

No i kid, you should see the morons at my bus stop. Just throw whatever on the ground and dont even try to walk towards the trash can.
aaaanyways, yeah, i see it all the time, but i rarely get a chance to say something about it cos i'll be on a bus or inside or something... or it'll be a giant dude i wouldnt wanna mess with (if he's an asshole enough to do something asshole-ish, he probably wouldn't think twice about hitting a 5'2 girl!)

behind every joke lies some truth
one of the customers i was serving at the post office the other day said, "oh yah, that. i'm not into the whole... green thing. its just.... too much. too much work."
if i had been at my other job (which is a big company and it doesnt matter if you piss off the odd customer) i would have told her what i thought about what she said.
argh! its annoying.

Teacher: "Why did you do so-and-so actions? Don't you know you're not supposed to do that?"
6 year old: "Oh I'm sorry, I didn't get the memo"
It sounds like the kid has family issues, etc, but still. What parents allows a 6 year old to get into that mindset?
Typo Man: "Thanks kidz, but remembir, stay in skool!"
Littering is a huge problem at the bus stop I wait at to go home from work. There's generally about 20 - 30 empty cups on the ground (tim horton's, mcdonalds and starbucks are all within walking distance) and granted, there's no garbage can at the bus stop, but how hard is it to hold onto the cup until you get to one? The bus trip is a 5 minute ride to the skytrain where there's tons of garbage cans and the bus is never full, so you don't need both hands to hold onto the rail or anything!
Awhile ago I was waiting for the bus and a middle aged guy, at least in his 40's or so, just threw his cup on the ground right in front of me as the bus pulled up, then, like a gentleman, ushered me to go ahead of him and get on the bus first, and I just looked him in the eye and said 'you shouldn't litter'. So it's not just kids doing it, it's adults who are fully aware of what they're doing and likely not trying to show off for anyone, just being completely ignorant.
I could rant on for pages, but I'll stop now.
i know right? translink puts them bins theere for a reason!!!!!!!!!!!!!
