Please someone explain to me rules of Baseball...!

With the flick of a wrist and a lot of top spin. There's different variations, although the easiest to throw, but hardest to master would be the 12-6 curve. Like the hands on a clock. You get your hands placed correctly with the seams, not across. Place your index and middle fingers together, apply pressure from underneath with your thumb, then you have to get your hand on top of the ball and as you bring your arm motion back down, you time your wrist flick down and spin the ball off your thumb creating a ton of top spin and once the ball has traveled far enough, it'll catch a groove and break straight down.

Wow that's hard to explain, and there's more to it, and a lot of practice, but I hope you get the gist of it with that.

LOL...I've been watch baseball for about 12 years now and still can't tell the difference in most of the pitches.

I don't get all into the different pitches. All I know is the two-seam fastball are fast. The knuckleball is slow as hell and crazy too(Look up Tim Wakefield for more info ). There's also the forkball is, which I have no clue what it is but Hideo Nomo used it during his heydays.

Word of advice, just watch the games and sooner the rules will come to ya.

I love this post. It was really interesting reading the original post. Growing up with baseball, it seems so easy to understand. But, reading through the original post I can see how it's confusing. Hope you enjoy watching it in the middle of the night over there!

Common pitches:

4-seam Fastball: Thrown normally so that four seams are hitting the wind when it's spinning.

2-seam Fastball: Same as 4-seam only held so that two seams hit the wind when spinning. This pitch typically moves in and down slightly (or 'tails') on a right-handed batter when thrown by a right-handed pitcher and vice versa. Greg Maddux has a good one.

Curveball: When thrown by a righty it will typically break 11-5 (think hands on a clock) and vice versa for a lefty (1-7). There is also the 12-6 curve. This pitch is usually 10-20 mph slower than a fastball.

Slider: Typically breaks 9-3 or 10-4 when thrown by a righty. Has later, sharper movement than a curveball so it's less of a loop. Tends to be 5-10 mph slower than a fastball.

Change-Up: A slow pitch desguised as a fastball to make the hitter swing early. Palmball, Circle Change are variations in the grip but are the same thing. Some pitchers like Pedro Martinez (throws a Circle Change) will have downward movement on it but won't be as dramatic as a slider or curve.

Screwball: Same as a curveball but breaks the opposite way. So it will break 1-7 when thrown by a righty and 11-5 by a lefty.

Cut Fastball or Cutter: Mix between a slider and fastball. Mariano Rivera specializes in this pitch. Basically moves opposite of a 2-seam fastball.

Split Finger Fastball or Splitter: Looks like a fastball (though is a few mph slower) then suddenly dives downward. Typically thrown as a strikeout pitch out of the zone.

Sinker: Very similar to a splitter but tends to have a little more movement and breaks slightly earlier. Often times it will also move in on a right handed batter when thrown by a right handed pitcher (see Brandon Webb, Derek Lowe).

Note that all of the 'clock hands' in reference to movement are in the view of the batter, not when watching from behind the pitcher like on TV.

Hey now, don't confuse him too much. Plus that majority of those were stats moreso than rules...we'll hit the stats class next semester.

I play in a softball league and we have a kid from South Africa on our team (he plays Rugby with my friend-so friend of a friend) who has never played baseball or softball before. When he first came to bat in the first game he stood right on home plate and waited for the pitcher to pitch the ball. Everyone was dying laughing including the umpire and catcher. I guess they stand right on something in cricket he claims which is why he did that

any sport that can end in a 0-0 tie should also be avoided. Seriously, how can teams/leagues charge people money then let a soccer match end in a 0-0 tie; hell the sport is boring enough, atleast reward the fans with a outcome

While your commentary spoof is spot on, the stats aren't more important than gameplay in baseball. They're merely used to judge the value of the player. Otherwise there would be no such thing as sacrifice plays.

-the pitcher throws the ball and it gets passed the catcher, usually happens on balls thrown in the dirt.

wild pitch?
-pitcher throws the ball way off target so that the catcher is unable to catch it.

stealing signs?
-each team makes up their own. The third base coach makes arms movements and touches different parts of his body to indicate a steal. Most of the motions don't mean anything and are to throw the other team off. For example: say a teams steal sign is a touch on the nose. If at anytime the third base coach touches his nose, the runner attempts to steal no matter what else he does. There may also be an 'indicator' sign, souch as a touch on the cap. This means that a sign such as a touch on the nose for stealing is only valid if he touches his cap afterward or before, otherwise it isn't a real steal sign.

-these are now illegal but a pitcher would spit on his hand or the ball so that it would come off his hand so that it gives the ball a funky spin and unpredictable movement.

When a runner steals a base but the defense doesn't attempt to get him out it can be ruled Indifference. If it is ruled Indifference the runner does not get a stolen base

When you are standing to close to the plate and a dickhead is pitching he may throw at your head to move you away from the plate.

This is just for fun. If you don't see the amusement try grabbing your crotch right now. Also could be for adjusting the cup I guess.
