It sounds about right, and that's probably just what it costs at the grocery store. Any meals out are on top of that too.

Break it down...$50 per person per week...$7.00 per day.
Do you think you eat 7 bucks worth of food/drink each day?
$800 sounds staggering, but it doesn't take much to get to that amount.

    Rising energy costs=higher food bills.

It's crazy how much we spend on food....

And 3/4 of the time I don't even feel like eating.

What's the alcohol budget looking like? :D

family of three and we are pretty close to that.

We spend close to $100 a week at the fish market alone.
Quality produce is also outrageously priced.

    what can you do?

You should have told him the store was out of that gift card so he gets indifference and a roof over his head for the next three years instead! Then start eating his cake in front of him for that bs he pulled with your steak! ;)

    not for long :D

I am a family of 2 and my food runs about $400/mo. I had to cut down on the fish - got too expensive. I miss it :(

Cool.. cheaper than feeding him or getting him phone, playstation, iPod or whatever he doesn't have!

Give him respect - save some money!

$800 (about £400) a month sounds reasonable for a family of four. We spend more than that for 3 of us.

I was just thinking this today. I used to like to think we spent $600 a month on food, but no way, it's more like $800. When you think about it, that's more than food, it's cleaning supplies too, TP, etc. For a family of four, that's $6.50 a day. I can honestly say, we consume at least that a day.

Ouch and Ouch....Doesn't leave much room for eating out, that's for sure.
