Lost Atm Card.

my wife's that is she left it right in the slot of her bank machine at work lucky for us the bank called us and told us they put a hold on the card for suspicious activity ,i said what ? they told us they stopped the usage of the card because it was being used at places we don't use it at ,like BURGER KING ,7ELEVEN,how in the world do they now we don't use it at these places ? weird no can anyone say profiling ......?

There's probably computer programs that track activity and if a number of unusual (as in never been used theere before, especially if you have a long history) transactions occur, a red flag goes up.

Call it "profiling", but you should be thankful.

Talk to NYPJ1, he may have it, he's been known to find other people's stuff at ATM machines.

You're correct, but sometimes I question the accuracy of their computer software. In 2003, with no history of ever using my card overseas, I used my card for hotel rooms, shopping and restaurants in the Philippines while visiting family and my credit company didn't question any of the transactions. But one month later, I buy a website from a web hosting company to make a web page for my dad's accounting practice and I received 3 calls from the credit card company asking if someone stole my card and if that 12 dollar transaction was authorized.

that blows ,,luckily it was taken care of b4 the purchases got outta hand

as for their profiling..???

i guess its not a bad thing,,otherwise they could still be running around w/ your card


as for me i found money not a card,,if i did find a card i would throw it in the bank slot
although i have to cnfess,when i was young i did have some fun with found credit cards:)

yeah i was shocked not one purchase wen't thru ,i thought for sure spanish last name why not BURGER KING OR 7ELEVEN that's all i see at those places hehehe :eek:...i didn't think about you though i forgot about you finding cash i think i need your phone # he he ..

well if the purchases were made in el barrio ,they wouldn't have questioned it !!!!!!!!! lol j/k

that's cool of them to do that for ya......although it might have been embarrassing had it been some porn sites that were put on the bill and they happened to give ya a call for that since ya normally don't buy internet porn, and it turned out that it was in fact you anyways........! (just a thought, i guess, haha)

of course they know where you usually use your card. when you get your statement, it has all the transactions on it, doesn't it?

it's a good thing. once I had to buy a bunch of suits to start a new job. discover called me and said my card was being used more than usual at places I didn't usually go and asked if it was me. I like that.

no i know that but they called me as soon as it was used at these two establishments BURGER KING & 7ELEVEN AND said it was being used in ?? transactions ....

I had trouble this morning... put my card in and asked for 80euro (I shoulda had 98 in the account)... it gave me the card, no money. So I tried again and it said insufficient funds :eek: and I thought it must have registered giving me the money but just didn't give it to me. So I called the number on the ATM and they told me to call my bank and it would sort it out within 24 hours. In the meantime I told a couple of people not to use the machine. So I went to my own banks atm and checked the balance and it was saying 98 but said insufficient funds when I went to withdraw. I thought I was fucked cos I only had my bus money this morning. I wouldn't have been able to get home or go to work or anything :eek: eventually I called my bank... I forgot I used my card as a laser card the other day and that money was blocked lol so I could take 50. I was pretty fucking relieved.

jose you were talking atm cards and I had just had issues shortly before I read the thread so I thought I'd share my story. I'm sure YOU can tell I had no intention of derailing your thread so I'll ignore any eejits who have anything further to say off topic

I lost my credit card once. I don't kmow how, but I am guessing in a drunken state one particular friday night. On the Sunday i realised I didnt have it, and I looked around then called up to cancell and some kind sould had already cancelled it for me. I was so lucky. I wanted to find out who did it to thank them, buut they didnt leave a name with my bank.

It is good to see there are still some honest people in the world.

Thanks to the record store out in Colorado selling Riot Act's they didn't have and having their computer database hacked my ATM card # was stolen last week and I had to cancel it and spend some nice "quality" time on the phone with my bank.

lucky you with us they tried to eat ,get gas ,and what else i don't know but at least the bank new something was up and stopped all transactions on the card ...
