I think those pictures are inspiring. Helen Keller overcame obstacles with someone who was willing to believe in her. I thought those pictures were beautiful, and not just because I like B&W images :).

    Thanks for sharing them.

Oh I think it's a beautiful picture - that woman did amazing things to teach this young lady how to communicate and have a very fullfilling life

she's just as much an inspiration as Helen Keller

but I know what you mean Jose, my sister has two kids with Cystic Fibrosis and although they are doing remarkably well, you never know when there could be a turn for the worse
Don't come closer or I'll have to go

Many parents are solid. They are right there for their kids. Yes it's rough, but some, like my mom, just believed it would all be all right, you know. As my mom told me I knew you would be ok. All your other organs were healthy. The unhealthy organ was my heart.

A couple weeks ago I directed my mom to my blogs, including my running blog. I post on there that I would like to run a marathon. She told me after she read my blogs she forgot to tell me she supports me in whatever I do including the marathon. This is the woman who saw me wheeled into the operating room, and saw me wake up in ICU. That was so cool to hear!

Parents who have kids with medical issues or other issues - there's still joy there, you know. Some parents just ROCK with life naturally. I'm lucky I had my mom when I woke up.

What you see in those pictures is strength and courage, and belief. I don't see the loss. I see the determination, the passion, the day by day living.

    It's not sad.

Do you have something against people with disabilities? Because that's what it sounds like.

Look, honey....it's that lady from the back of our State quarter. :D

P.S. Helen's another fine product of the state of Alabama.

    Right on.

    Anyway.

I've done a few school projects on Hellen Keller over the years... starting in fifth grade, and one or two on Annie Sullivan. Annie Sullivan is more interesting than Hellen, I think... she had a much tougher life.

Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,
and reveling in it's loyalty. It's made by forming coalitions
over specific principles, goals, and policies.

it most certainly belongs there. i wonder if her estate still has the original doll, if they could have it exhibited with it that'd be pretty intense!
