inspired by jamie uk's random acts of kindness thread, and to honour the spirit of my late friend Evan and the many good things he did for others, i'm posting this here in an attempt to help out a friend who is trying to deal with not only recovering from injuries, but also trying to pay his medical bills.
some of you may or may not be familiar with the reality show, The Ultimate Fighter. i have a friend named Dan Christison who appeared on the second season of the show and his wife, Kyria, became close friends with the moderator who oversaw The Ultimate Fighter forum while keeping up with Dan's appearance on the show.
the moderator's name is Mike Garrow. he is a truck driver and a mixed martial arts fan. he is also a soldier who has served the US in Iraq. some time ago, he was shot by a friend while trying to help get that friend out of a dark place in his life.
Mike was hospitalized with his injuries, and against doctor's advice, left the hospital early to try to get back to work driving his truck so that he wouldn't lose money from income and also to try to minimize his hospital bills. unfortunately, this meant that he had to go back to work in a great deal of pain and he and his family still have medical bills hanging over their heads.
the good people at Kitsura Clothing Ltd. have designed a t-shirt to benefit Mike Garrow, known as G-Row online, with the payment of his medical bills. it is a great shirt, and only 25$. sales of the shirt benefit Mike and his family directly to help pay their way out of the medical bills.
whether you are a mixed martial arts fan, someone who appreciates a nice t-shirt, or someone wanting to help out someone in need, please take a moment to have a look. thanks, i'd really appreciate it. i'd like to do as much as i can to help, even if it means just selling one shirt in addition to what i buy...
here is the t-shirt:

"A few years ago my wife became part of an online community called The Ultimate Fighter Forum while I was away filming TUF. She became good friends with several people through the Internet that support this sport. The thing that makes this group of people a little different than other people who have "friendships" online is that these people have real friendships off the Internet as well. I believe every time we have traveled in the last three years we have met someone for lunch, dinner or just to hang out and chat for a while. Many of them have been cool enough to spend their hard earned money to travel to my fights and even take their vacations in Santa Claus, Indiana where my wife and I live. At first I was hesitant about meeting people online and definitely allowing my wife to meet strangers because we've all read the horror stories but there has not been one person that we have met over the years that hasn't been a good person with a great heart. As a matter of fact, one of the guys from this forum moved here to train full time and made the decision even before he had the chance to meet either one of us.
As in any friendships there are times when someone may need help and this band of friends will always reach out and help the other. Several months ago one of the friends, a guy called G-row online, was shot. He was not shot by a random person but by one of his lifetime friends for nothing more than the fact that the friend is walking on a dark path and G-row being the person he is was reaching out and trying to help this man. G-row is one of our soldiers, he served time in Iraq and is one of those cool guys that you just like having around. The day he was shot was crazy. It was very early in the morning and our cell phones were going wild. It was terrifying to not know what happened to our friend but amazing in the fact that so many people from all over the US were concerned and contacting each other in support. G-row's hospital bills are mounting up over the incident. One of the people in this band of friends is starting a clothing company and he decided to lend a hand. He had a design contest for a t-shirt, is selling them on his website and the proceeds will go to help G-row pay for his hospital bills.
I know that there are many ways to help people and many people who need help. It seems that people are always asking for your money. The cool thing in this is that you aren't just giving your money away to an organization that you really don't know where it's going. You are getting a kick ass shirt for it. G-row supports this sport and the fighters and the organizations involved in it. He has been a mod on the TUF forum for years. If you get a chance, check out the Team G-row shirt on the Kitsura website http://www.kitsura.com It's the first shirt in the Men's section. Brewster is the guy who owns the clothing company. He and his crew have designed some really cool shirts. I wore his clothes at my last fight and the shorts were great to fight in.
Thanks for your time guys.
Dan Christison
indeed!
the shirt is on it's way... and with only $2.80 in shipping!! awesome....
ceg, you are awesome, awesome, awesome!!!
any time, buddy.
it's a super cool shirt....
i was afraid that the shipping would make it cost-prohibitive, but i was shocked at how little they were charging..... couldn't pass it up.
...plus it's a good story about a good cause to tell when people mention that it's unique!
again.
