The Election and Christmas

My Aunt and Uncle come up every year for Christmas, but this year will be different.

They are family and all, and I love them......but they are Hard Core Republicans. For the last 8 years they have been going on and on about how great of a person Dick Cheny is....etc etc.

Over the election campaign, we have been having a very lively and interesting email discussion, with articles and research about both sides.

Now that it is over, and the American people have spoken, they are very very bitter. They have now refused to come north and stay in my house and they are skipping Christmas.

Man - these Republicans sure are sore losers. The last thing I said to them was "isn't a lively, educated debate - the essense of democracy"?

Their Respone : no one that is educated could possibly support Obama.

I am sending them a commemerative Obama Shirt for Christmas.

Wow. That's pretty ridiculous of them! You should sign them up for a free Obama sticker too. :)

I agree, it's pretty low of them.
I'd put them on all kinds of Obama mailing lists.

  • send them the letter written by 76(approximate) Nobel Prize winners endorsing Obama. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say they're probably pretty well educated, and I'm educated and I voted for him so that's 77 educated supporters, and at least 1 educated voter!!! Hell Yes

    Wow.
    Talk about SOUR GRAPES!!!

Ask them why people that did not want BUSH in 2 times did not act like that?

EDIT: You are in Toronto---you didn't even VOTE and they are still like that? Funny.
So I'll just lie down and wait for the dream
Where I'm not ugly and you're lookin' at me
  • What's the big deal? They realize they are going to start paying taxes out of their ass, so they are saving money while they still have some. I'd do/say anything to get out of Christmas with my family, too.
ps. pretty fucked up to send them an Obama shirt. Yeah, nothing like family that enjoys rubbing salt in your wounds.
I really screwed that up. I really Schruted it.
  • My in-laws pissed me off because before the election, I heard them saying stuff like, I hope Obama wins, so if the country gets in trouble, he'll get all the blame, and the republican party will have the last laugh. It's a contest to them, they don't care if the better candidate wins, just if they win. It's sad.

Aah, and they call us liberals "elitists?" Nothing like a broad, sweeping statement to show how "educated" you are.

Score one for the good guys.

That's a shame, for them. I don't see the point in skipping out on family gatherings over politics (especially when you're Canadian and it's not even that you were able to vote!). A debate is just that, you are allowed your own personal opinions and to speak about them how you please, especially if you can back up why you feel as you do. After the discussion/debate it's over, it's amazing how so many people feel that they have to force their opinions on others and if others don't take up these opinions as their own it's not right. I have family and friends who were unsure on who to vote for, all I could tell them was to educate themselves on the issues and whichever candidate suited them they SHOULD vote for since it's a personal decision. As long as they VOTED I was happy. Just figure it this way... at least you won't have to deal with their Obama bashing during Christmas dinner (*which I probably will have to hear  and from family members who DIDN'T even vote!!!! )

Don't be a butthead about it. Just send them on a nice guilt trip with a big gushy Christmas card that says, "We miss you!" or something. Rubbing it in their faces makes you no better of a person.

kevinbeetle: "Yes. When her career washes up and her and Gavin move to Galveston, you will meet her at Hot Topic shopping for a Japanese cheerleader outfit.

    Next!"

I think this is a WAY better idea.

I like that. Much better and more mature.

Maybe - I could photoshop a picture of them with Obama, and put that in the card? ;)

Butt-Head??? I haven't heard that one in a while. I'm going to pull that one out of retirement.

I plan on being a butthead about it when I visit the in-laws this x-mas in Wyoming. They tried to tell my wife that the Bible said to not vote for Obama. Also, being from Wyoming, they think Cheney is the 2nd coming of Jesus or something.

When I move into enemy territory I am armed to the hilt. Can't wait.

Obama is in the Bible? Man, that makes him WAAAAY older than McCain. (You wouldn't tell by the looks of it.)

They wouldn't specify the chapter and verse, but I'm sure it's still in there... somewhere.

educated people know how to spell 'commemorative' though ;):D

if these people were my relations i'd be delighted they werent coming for Christmas... they sound totally boring... and the last thing i want to talk about around the dinner table would be fucking politics... its christmas day, talk about nice things... not politics!
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.
