Anyone else think this whole thing is ridiculous? It sucks that the Chargers lost on a blown call, but Ed Hochuli should not be punished. With all the officials that give breaks to the stars, can't get a call right after a slow motion replay, or make other inexcusable bad calls, the NFL chooses to downgrade their best official for making a mistake on a judgment call at full speed?

The league is not demoting him. They just acknowledge he made a terrible call and grade him accordingly. If that would have happened in a playoff game or the Superbowl it would have been the end of his career for sure.
I actually hate the Chargers and cheer for them to lose every week....but that was a blown call that cost them a chance at winning that game.
To Denver's credit, they did score and convert a 2 point play.
Can we please test Ed for roids too!

He was so jacked last year. He must have gotten a hold of some BALCO clear while doing that game in SF (in the picture).
I agree. That was a blown call and Hochuli should be downgraded. I also don't really look at it as a punishment as it just means he might not be able to ref the Superbowl this year, which he probably wouldn't have got anyway because there are better refs out there.

Honestly....people are going to forget about this in two weeks anyway. He is one of the few referees that people recognize. The NFL is nt going to take further action except make sure he is not on the field for any huge games THIS year.
He is great Ref and has been for years....
It's like saying you're not going to listen to PJ because they made Evacuation...... Everyone makes mistakes
even if it WAS a pass ... the ball was travelling backwards, making it a lateral ... and thus, the whistle should not have been blown even if he thought it was a pass.
I have Jay Cutler on my fantasy team so, I was ecstatic ... but ... man, that was a really bad call on several levels.
But people make mistakes ... people will get over it.

I don't see how the NFL can do something to Hochuli but not Jeff Triplette in the past.

No matter what the call the Chargers still gave up the TD AND the 2 point conversion.

Exactly, it's not like Hochuli called a touchdown when one didn't happen. I mean Cutler didn't have to fumble that ball and give San Diego a 'break' or a 'chance.'

That is what I am saying. These leagues go all out to keep the information about official grading private, on refs that range from good to awful. But when one of the best in the league misses a fairly tough call-it is a media frenzy.

That is all I have to say about that.
