How many Mac people are on here? My wife and I are planning on buying a new computer, and are seriously considering a Mac. I am usually not enough of a computer guy to spend $1199, but I think the new Macs are awesome. Everyone I know that has a Mac swears by them, while 50% of the PC people I know say "Get a Mac, my (insert PC brand here) sucks"
I love my female wife...

  • I would never get a Mac. No offence to Mac users, if you aren't technically inclined, Mac is more than fine, and some of the software that Macintosh has kick the ass of alot of other software (GarageBand for example).

Mac really isn't for me. Sure it's powerful, but how do you repair a Mac? You send it to Apple. I'd rather do it myself. I don't like Apple hardware at all, no iPods for me. I also hate the one mouse button.

As for OSX.. Don't even get me started. Yeah, I still stand by what I said about what some of the software is like, but the OS itself I fucking hate.

No Mac for me. Windows can be tolerable at times, but I'm a Unix guy.

I will say that I dislike the one-button mouse. It's taken a long time to get used to (almost a year and a half since I first bought my Mac), and I still find myself trying to right-click.

Get a Mac mighty mouse. It's got one button but it can be set up to launch right-click context menus when you press the right side of it. Plus the scroll button blows away anything else out there.

You CAN right click with a Mac

You just need to enable the setting in System Preferences.

    Under Keyboard and Mouse

Under Mouse you just have to set the right half of the mouse to be secondary button.

Under trackpad it's the check box for Tap trackpad using two fingers for secondary click.

    Hope this helps

As to the original poster, I have my Mac since they started putting in Intel and other than a replacement battery havent had any issues.

Once you go Mac you don't go back :)

  • Former PC user, and my purchase of a macbook pro this past January has made me a mac user for life. They're leaps and bounds ahead of pcs in user-friendliness and simplicity. plus the thing just hauls ass anyways.

I've used a PC most of my life (and have one at home), but a couple of months ago I got a MAC at work. After using it everyday for awhile now, I can say that it's about a draw. The MAC works faster as far as starting up and shutting down, etc, and it looks and feels cooler, but other than that it has just as many issues as the PC does in terms of usability and things that bug me.

My next computer will be Linux and and I'm thinking of switching this one to that anyway.

All I really need is an internet connection and a browser. Everything else I do online.

With a Mac Mini, you can use a PC monitor and mouse. I don't like the one-button mouse, either, so I just don't use it. I find that non-Mac users make everything Mac out to be really inconvenient when there are simple ways to get around it, or not use it at all. Apple is aware of this, so Macs are very versatile and you don't have to know them inside and out to be able to take advantage of it. As for hardware upgrades, if you really want to get up close and personal with your Mac, you can. Many advanced users modify their Macs.
Of course, some people go a little too far with their Mac love ... there's a hilarious photoshop "ad" out there on the intertubes that has the Apple logo and the slogan, "We could slap this logo on a turd, and you'd buy it." :p

Hell yes. I just get a warm, fuzzy feeling every time I open my macbook pro. I never got that feeling when I used a PC. Fuck windows and everything about it.

I personally have a Mac Mini hooked up to a Sony Bravia HD TV. You could do so with any TV with a PC input option (as most new TVs do). This was I can listen to my iTunes from my surround sound entertainment system. I've also ripped all my DVDs into iTunes format; eliminating the need to keep them around. I also get to browse the internets from the comfort of my couch. This is by far a better route to go than the Apple TV.
