Michigan's economy is HIT. Those bums in the olde english D sold a record amount of tix before the season began, and the Pistons are playing good playoff basketball right now, too. Yeah, lotsa options with as little cash to make the choice with as ever right now.

Then why aren't those seats available on Ticketmaster? If the economy is bad, I understand. But you can't even buy those tickets. Why is that?

How can they call Detroit "Hockeytown" with all those empty seats clearly visible in the front sections during the playoffs? BTW there are still standing room tickets available for tonight's game.
its the style of play Detroit plays that their fans dont agree with. when you win as much as the wings do the fans have a right to be snobby. people from philly know nothing about this btw

Well, it's like I said - I would poke fun at Red Wings fans, but at the end of the day, they have to live in Detroit. :D

No... I'm sure she's never been here. It's an old bit that's been used for years (insert name of city here and presto!!!! instant bad joke)... But I've been to Dallas multiple times, and guess what? She ain't got much room to talk.

I went to my first game at Joe Lewis Areana for game 2 of the Colorado series. I think you will see a lot of empty seats for the first 5-7 minutes into each period because Joe Lewis has about four or five mens restrooms. That is why you see so many people scurrying up the aisles with 3 minutes left in each period.

It took a whole intermission before me and my buddy made it though the line, and he came pretty close to just grabing an empty cup and using it in front of everybody.

I live about 6 hours away, so it's tough for me to make it to a game unless it is a Saturday early game.

Anyway, the only reason I can think of why there would be empty seats is that the big automakers human resource groups must buy them and then just forget about them. The fan base if very knowledgable about the game. They have a great history, and the current team is playing AMAZING hockey right now. Go figure.

If I had to move to that side of the state, I sure as heck wouldn't mind living in Royal Oak, Grosse Pointe, Bloomfield Hills, or Birmingham -- just to name a few. My guess is you don't really know too much about Detroit. The area/city are not as bad as you think.

And yeah, it is Hockeytown, so how bad can that be??? :D

I've been to damn near every major city in North America (still have yet to get to San Diego, Vancouver and Minneapolis), and there's terrible areas of EVERY big city... yep, even you guys up in Canada have them :D. Detroit isn't any different.

Seattle is about as safe as safe gets. Portland isn't too shabby either. Most be the hippies.

Hockeytown - I guess if you say it enough maybe someone will believe it. Can you really trust it when it's self-designated? I guess George Contanza had it right 'remember it's not a lie if you believe it.' Kind of disgraceful not to be selling out in Detroit. I guess they will say what great fans they are when they win the Cup though.

25 years without a championship in ANY major sport makes pjhawks a bitter, bitter man. ;)

Don't worry... you've only got 2 games left and then you can direct your attention to Ryan Howard and his quest to reach the Mendoza Line. :D

Haven't been to Portland... Seattle is really nice. Still a major city and there's going to be pockets though (and there were... I saw 'em).

very true - and I think 25 years without a championship gives Philly fans a right to be bitter don't you think?

Now I certainly don't want to bash the folks in Detroit. I went there last year for a Tigers game early in the year (during the Wings and Pistons playoff runs) and I must say Detroit is one of the best sports cities I have ever been in. The people seem genuinely concerned about each team, which is good. But dozens of visible empty seats in the conference finals is ridiculous. I went to Ticketmaster today just to see if there were any seats available, and all that was left was standing room. Someone has all those seats and isn't using them?

Don't be fooled by what you see on t.v.
Don Cherry showed a scene with empty seats. No doubt it was at the start or near the end of the period.
The seats fill up in Detroit.
Also, many of the lower bowl ice level seats are corporate and they spend the intermissions in the "Olympia Club" which is situated underneath the stands in one corner of the arena.
When play sarts it takes a little while to return to your seats due to the distance from said seats.
Wings fans are great and you will se in the finals bec.there will be no
    game 5.

I wouldn't know... I'm too busy thinking about the last 10 years and 3 Stanley Cups, '04 NBA Title, and the '06 World Series to know about that. :D

Seriously, you should be bitter. Being a Lions fan (and season ticket holder) teaches me everything I need to know about being bitter. But they're never even close to being good so it's a bit different than having teams invent new ways to kick you in the nuts like they do in Philly.

well yes they do kick us in the nuts and we keep coming back. and people talk about the Cubs being lovable losers - that's all great they've gone 100 years without winning but at least those fuckers had Jordan and the Bulls to win 7 titles. In philly we are working on 100 SEASONS (4 sports 25 years) without a title. Just sick.

the difference is detroit has no nice areas, and the casino doesnt help
but its well know that the red wings have some of the highest prices, $300 to take your kid to a game? no wonder the seats are empty
