He could make or break rafa! My reasoning.....with all of Rafa's signings, he has sold them for more than he paid for them...great business sense, but he will never get £20m for Keane again..so its a bit of a gamble.

I do feel tho that himself and torres have the potential to strike up a terrifying partnership :D

Here's to the new season :D

he's a safe bet imo... Keane knows the league, the players, he wont need that time to fit into english life like most of Liverpools signings need...

he's going to be a great signing as i think he'll help Torres even more and that can only mean more goals for Torres.
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

He's not quick enough to be a top top player, he's a good player though. Time will tell.
    I came, I saw, I concurred.....

he'll be good, he's a great runner of the ball, he'll take some of the attacking pressure of gernando. it's got the potential to be a killer strike partnership.

My mate is a Spurs season ticket holder, he's gutted.
I can't say I've ever watched Robbie Keane and been 'wowed' by him, he was a very promising youngster who turned into a decent hard working, journeyman professional, £20M is a lotta dosh for that...and at 28 years old.
I'm not sure he has the class that Liverpool need to turn them into realistic contenders, but as we say, time will tell.

Hope he gives the machine gun attack celebration a rest now, he'll give himself a sore back.

How are people not convinced about his quality yet?

sure, he had a journey-man start to his career, and was very wasteful of chances, but the past 3/4 years he's been one of the most consistent premier league players.

    2007 - 31 goals
    2008 - 23 goals

I think he's the perfect partner for Torres. Berbatov was a good foil, but Torres is an outright goal scorer, Keane will thrive alongside him. Disappointed for Spurs, but delighted for Keane to get a shot at proving himself in Champions League again, especially after not making it at Inter.

spurs have sold Dafoe, Robinson and Keane. They may sell Berbatov as well. It is a totally different squad now.
  • If Berbatov goes to Man Utd I think everyone one else can forget about the league! Rooney, Tevez, Ronaldo and Berbatov!!! c'mon what chance the rest!?

I think its a very poor signing from Pool's point of view, its seems they have accepted finishing 3/4 in the league and qualifiying for the champoins league, the aim should be win ALL (though i know the odds are against em with moneybags Utd & Chelsea).

Robbie Keane has always got his goals against lesser teams, he rarely does it against the bigger teams, a good move for him, not for Pool.

I hope im wrong, i like Robbie, he's a likeable fella, Ferguson was right when he decided not to buy him all them yrs ago.

Anyway - the chap runs like a fuckin duck.

This coming from a Spurs fan.

Edit - just to add, he may be Ireland's all time top scorer, but Aldridge & Stapelton were BY FAR the better strikers

Aldridge wouldn't have got all those goals in todays game, and he only had what, 2 great seasons? Don't remember him being any quicker than Keane and he definitely wasn't as clever on the ball. So...not by far, not at all a better striker.

He cut in in Spain too, dont forget.

    Here's is his career stats

"In a club and country career spanning 882 appearances and 474 goals, he overtook Jimmy Greaves' as British Football's record goalscorer and was honoured with a benefit match against the Liverpool side of 1987-88."

Where will Keane play? Up-front with Torres?! I'm not so sure. Particularly as Benitez is still intent of getting Gareth Barry.
How's he gonna fit Barry, Mascherano, Gerrard, Keane and Torres in the same team?
Got a feeling Keane will play on the right, similar role to that played by Kuyt last season. Babel on the left with Gerrard behind Torres and Barry & Mascherano holding in midfield.

He could play Gerrard on the right, not ideal but he puits him there a lot.
And Babel is good but not good enough to cement a starting place going on his form last year. Anyway he picks different team every week, so it'll probably work out that he continues rotating

Id say Voronin could be a good foil for Keane, he's a very similar player to Berbatov (although obviously not as good)

Personally, I don't see why Benitez wants Barry. Don't know what he can offer that Alonso can't. But there are a number of things that Alonso can offer that Barry can't!!!

Real Madrid just got an absolute bargain. Rafael Van der Vaart for £7.1m !!

How could Hamburg not get more for him? He's great! Good business for Real.

Bentley cost £15m and Vaart only £7m? funny old world!

I don't get the whole Barry thing either, but I have grown tired of Alonso. He is overrated. A great passer but seems to lack a bit of drive. He just doesn't seem to always give it 100% the way Stevie G, Carra, and Mascherano do.

As for Van der Vaart - I am happy Liverpool didn't go after him. I am an Ajax fan too and when he was at Ajax he had serious problems with his attitude. He does not who up every week. Maybe that will change now that he has gone to Spain, which is where he always wanted to go.

That said, Liverpool still have a GLARING deficiency on the wings and I am shocked to see the money being spend on Barry rather than Silva (or someone else like that). Width has been our glaring weakness for years, as has finishing. So I have no problem with the Keane signing, but why spend cash on another inner MF rather than upgrading the wings?

I agree about the wing thing. Our midfield is as good as any yet our wing play is so poor. Give me silva over barry anyday....but barry is versatile and we all know rafa loves players like that

I watched Keane again tonight, nothing will convince me he is worth £20m, or anywhere near the class that Liverpool want.
He's exactly what I said in my post last August....he's an okay player, he's a lot of piss and wind, as they say.
