My wife and I were talking about getting into it this fall for exercise but we don't know much about it.
I think its best to buy a used bike in the beginning.
Anyone into this?

You could probably get a good deal at the end of summer I would think. Plus I have a friend that is a buyer and bike prices will skyrocket next summer. I would recommend something like a hybrid bike like this: http://www.rivercitybicycles.com/bikes/displayimage.php?album=52&pos=0

yay, but don't like the roads so it's mainly been offroad, but it's been a few years at that. Fucks in england seem to think bikes shouldn't be on the pavement.

Depends on what you want to do and how much you want to spend.

Hybrid is your best bet because it can be the easiest to ride. Mountain can be used both off and on road with the wide knobby tires can also be somewhat easy to ride.

Road bikes like what I ride can be more difficult and technical to ride. I ride a road racer very lite and very expensive but then again I like to go fast. I hope this helps a bit.

I like trail riding, so Im more into mountain bikes. It would be cool to ride a new touring bike (just realized I still call 'em 10-speeds :D ) havent been on one in years...I'm sure they HAUL.

Haven't been able to ride much the last few years, I think it would kill me to get back into it. But I heard a ski hill near here opened a downhill course, and have the chairlifts open...that sounds about my pace exercise-wise.

Mountain bike will not really work for me, I live in flat New Jersey. No hills around here.

It's flat as hell around here too...if I want to ride decent trails, I have to drive to them...it's worth it to get into nature. Not sure how far it would be for you to escape the concrete tho...
(you might just want it as transportation too, if so just ignore me)

I'm 6ft 240-ish :) and I fit on my Raleigh R800 Dura Ace. I was fitted for my bike down to my cycling shoes and shorts. It matters if you're buying from let's say a dept store compared to a cycling shop.

Once you've made your choice start out on flat roads with bike paths then work your way up to rolling hills. Hills are my favorite.

You will most likely need a 58cm road bike. I am 6'2'' and ride a 60cm.

I just got into road biking a couple years ago and love it. I prefer it to mountain biking now.

I would look to spend $400 on a decent used bike first and put in a couple hundred miles. If you like it and you think you could really turn it into a daily/weekly hobby, then make the upgrade!

    I would check craigslist.

I gave up my traveling state champion softball team because of a bad knee. Cycling eliminates the pounding on my knees and do still use my 2-$300 titanium bats just in the cages.

I own a Felt road bike and have a Kona hybrid.

I really dont know much about brands. I would search craigslist (or your local bike shop), find a bike in your price range thats 58 cm, then do a google search for reviews.

    Good luck!
